BillyVance 35 #1 August 20, 2008 That I finally got a high speed internet service I'm happy with. Fucking phone company's DSL service is worthless, and has been pissing me off long enough. I kept getting my connection dropped from time to time, and when it was connected, it wasn't at full speed that I paid for. Made surfing the forums here or playing on pokerstars nearly impossible. So today I finally get my new cable modem up and running. Open IE. BAM! Page is up in a second. Click on dropzone.com. BAM! Page loads up nearly instantly. Fucking awesome. Fuck the phone company. I've gone Cable! mdrejhon 8 #3 August 20, 2008 It is an area-by-area dependent thing -- the DSL service can be pretty terrible in the periphery far away from the central office, but at my home, DSL (smooth transmitting 24/7) is more reliable than Cable (lots of bursty freezing and slows down at peak). Fiber is the best though -- if you're lucky to have access to Verizon FiOS.
BillyVance 35 #4 August 20, 2008 Quote Um......I think that you can drop the phone service too. I am going to change my phone service to the bare minimum, local calling plan, for the simple reason to be able to call 911 from my TTY. It's about $10 a month. I can call free anywhere in the continental US through my video phone or via internet based relay service. Matt I never put any lights up on my house. It's a royal pain in the ass. I just put up a giant inflatable snow globe in the front yard and that's it."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
BillyVance 35 #13 August 20, 2008 Quote out of curiosity...who is your phone company? CenturyTel. They suck ass. Another friend of mine had the same problem and he lives across the river from me. He loves his cable modem now. I should add that the cable company I have - Coosa Cable, is family-owned and only serves the immediate area, about 3 counties. Great customer service.
