ryoder 1,590 #1 August 21, 2008 http://www.cocktailworldcup.com/forum/thread/thread_id/0 QuoteBase jumping is one of the most exhilarating extreme sports you can possibly try. It involves the jumper using either a parachute or a wingsuit when they descend from fixed objects like buildings. The jumps usually happen from altitudes of around 2,000 feet and at that height you can imagine the rush. Ummm....lemme think....I'll take the parachute! And since the jumps "usually happen from 2,000", make it a skydiving parachute."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. So Non-jumpers are whuffos but what do you call a non-base Jumper? Yeah, when Media starts to get Skyjumping right, then maybe I'll start expecting them to learn a thing or two bout BASE.=========Shaun ==========

NickDG 23 #6 August 21, 2008 Somehow people got the idea that old Eiffel Tower film from PATHE Newsreels depicts a wingsuit flight and landing attempt. It's not. The fellow who died on that jump built a large framework he wore around his body. He then draped a parachute over the framework After he jumped the parachute was supposed to lift off the framework cleanly and inflate. And, oh well . . . If anything this guy, whose name was Franz Reichelt, is the missing link between when parachutes were packed into externally mounted metal or wooden containers on balloons, and later airplanes, and when they were actually worn by the jumper in a backpack . . .
