Gawain 0 #1 August 25, 2008 I was reading about this Microsoft campaign to try and reverse perceptions about Windows Vista. The first thing I was reading about it was on Engadget. Then I went to the actual http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/ site... So, what's the deal, does Vista still suck? Or is it all FUD and hype from the Apple gang... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! PhreeZone 20 #2 August 25, 2008 If you want to run Vista on that 3-4 year old PC that you already have... Vista is slow and chunky and sucks. If you are willing to go out and get a new PC Vista is not too bad now that most software supports it. I perfer XP since I am used to the XP interface after racking up probally 10,000 hours on it since its was new and only have a few hours on Vista and don't need all the flashy things that Vista does with its interface.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Icon134 0 #3 August 25, 2008 I'll echo what Eric has said... I have a relatively new PC with Windows Vista installed on it and I have very little problems with it and all in all like it...Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
livendive 8 #4 August 25, 2008 I'm going to be ordering a couple new Vaio's this week and don't have much choice with regard to OS. A year or two ago, I'd have gone out of my way to get them with XP, but most of what I've read lately has said that Vista works just fine now. It'll take me some time to get used to, probably till Windows 7 is released, but such is life. Any advice on whether to upgrade to 64-bit Vista? I've read about it on a bunch of blogs but am not really sure whether it's a good idea. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" I remote into several of our clients PCs from work. The systems that have 64-Bit Vista are a lot faster than 32-bit. The only problem (with our product & Vista 64-Bit) is that Windows places the Registry Keys in the wrong place. But when I move them to the proper place, everything works fine.Skymama stalker #69!!!! That's not entirely true... you can buy a 'business class', machine with the whatever version of Vista it is that's the equivalent to XP Pro, and the license is down gradable to allow running XP Pro. I still buy my machines for work pre-configured with XP Pro. They're OEM licensed for Vista, so Microsoft can tell the world they sold another Vista license, but they're sold with, and running XP, legally. riddler 0 #8 August 25, 2008 I won't put Vista on a machine I own until I have absolutely no other choice. I've already had to fix several problems with computers that have it. On the surface, it seems to work, but once you start drilling down, it's problem upon problem. The business rules of this release are completely whacked. Service Pack 2 or 3 of Vista might get some of these problems worked out, and it might be OK to upgrade by then. I know of at least one significant Denver IT company that made the decision to switch all Windows desktops and servers completely to Linux because of problems with Vista. And anyone who has worked with Linux knows that's a fairly drastic step.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
