SarahC07 0 #1 August 26, 2008 I attempted to run last night - just a short distance - and guess what? My knee hurts. I walked/ran just over 3 miles ... just 3 miles. ARGH I'm ready for surgery at this point - which is still only 50/50 on improving the situation. I used to run 4-5 miles a day 5 times a week and now I'm down to power walking at best. This reaaalllyyy sucks. I'll stop my bitching and go to work. I'm calling my doc again for a MRI/consultation. I've already been diagnosed with chondromalacia patella. whatever. I really just don't want to give up running for the rest of my life.
Broke 0 #2 August 26, 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chondromalacia_patella Hmm interesting. Just a little foor for thought. It might be a good idea to work out the muscles which help to support the knee. Do some leg extentions, and that should help prevent some of the pain you are experiancing. Then again another option is to choose another activity to help stay fit. Might I suggest bicycle riding, or perhaps swimming.Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. There are far better exercises to strengthen your knee. If you go to a gym ask a trainer!Skymama's #2 stalker -
d_squared431 0 #4 August 26, 2008 I have had my share of knee problems(complete tear of ACL, Descoid meniscus, torn meniscus-reconstruction on the meniscus, removal of the meniscus, chondromalacia patella). I really suggest strengthening with a PT. I had two knee surgeries in a 6 month period this last year and will probably end up having a partial or full knee replacement in the next 10 yrs. I was told no more impact sports. I made the choice to have my knee fixed cause swimming in the pool hurt. That turned into two surgeries since the first one didn't work. All together I have had 3 surgeries on the same knee. I know the how you are feeling and what you are going thru- thinking just get it fixed and all will be good. It doesn't always work out that way so really consider an aggressive PT program for 6-8wks and then if no improvement do the surgery if that is the only other option. Just know surgery may not be the answer. You might have the same pain if not more. I hope it all works out for youTPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly
SarahC07 0 #5 August 26, 2008 Folks, fear not. I have tried EVERYTHING recommended to me. I've taken piroxicam and I've done PT and taken glucosamine. Nothing works. The drugs dull the pain a bit but it's still there and annoying. I'm pretty tone and about a year ago this time I was really tone. It's not a muscle mass issue - I have plenty of that, sometimes I think too much... for a chick at least. The 2nd doc I saw suggested I learn how to swim or we could talk about surgery. I'm not Fing swimming. I'm taking the surgery. Really, I'm just looking for sympathy. ... and bitching, just a little. It's just so unfair. All the runners out there know what I'm talking about - NOTHING replaces running. It's just not the same...
lawrocket 3 #6 August 26, 2008 My knee is permanently messed up. The explosions coming from my knee regularly gross out my wife, family, friends and staff. They are quite spectacular, really. I tore an ACL 17 years ago. Finally had surgery 15 years ago. I used to run like a deer. It got to the point abotu 10 years ago where running made my knee feel better - it was the only time my knee did NOT bother me. So being an idiot I would run on it a couple of times a day just to make it feel better. I wish you the best. I just can't run on the thing anymore... My wife is hotter than your wife.
