wide or narrow chest strap (femaile input)

Recommended Posts

In my experience, wide or narrow makes little difference, however the positioning of the chest strag (over or under) can make a big difference depending on how large you are. I'm sure there have been discussions on this in the women's forum, do a search on chest straps limited to that forum and you should find something.

Yes, position (high or low) is far more important than width.
It also depends whether or not you get chest rings. I remember Brenda Reid (buxom) complaining that (1996 vintage ) Talons were uncomfortable with chest rings.
Since then Rigging Innovations has made a dozen minor changes to their harnesses since then, you should try phoning R.I. and asking Brenda directly.

Similarly, if you want to know the finer points of fitting Racer harnesses, you should phone Jump Shack and ask to speak directly with Nancy Lariviere.

Over the years, I've sold a lot of rigs to women. I have had one or two, who ordered the 1"-webbing chest straps and said they were uncomfortable. The majority of women went with the wider chest straps. It's all in the positioning of the chest strap in regard to the bosom. Rob, made an excellent suggestion about calling either or both, Brenda and Nancy. Both ladies are more than knowledgable and have a ton or more experience in the sport and gear. Good luck!

There have been discussions both about the width and also about positioning (hint: under is not good in the event of a hard opening...)
