Thanks John.

  • Verbier is in South Eastern Switzerland (at the junction of Italy & France). It's a really loverly place for walking, skiing and flying.

  • During this visit, I was being taught to fly my tandem, so we were concentrating on take-offs and landings (rather than duration). We used two take-off locations. The first gave me about a 5 minute flight (short hop) and the big one for 20+ mins (with over a 1000meter drop), so that I could do some canopy control exercises. - On my solo wing, I typically fly for over an hour and have 1 massive 7 hour flight under my beltB|
  • On this course (4 days) I did between 3 and 5 flights a day (the long flights had a long drive back from the LZ to take-off - about 30 mins and the weather was not always on our side (low cloud and some rain) - but i did enough flights to pass my course.
  • Nope, not too many questions, I love to chat about all of the flying sports that I enjoy participating in. - Thanks

I've had the impression that you live in England - is that so?
Is this a sport that you can do in England's relatively lower mountains?
Or do you have to travel to Europe to participate?

john, for christs sake, england IS europe. just not the main land.. :D

Don't even need a mountain, just a decent hill and access to it. Europe is good though because the scenery is far better, the launches bigger and the continental weather is waaaay more consistent.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Hi John thanks for your post. Yes I live in England (actually East Anglia, which is as flat as Holland). I tend to fly more in the Alps because of their size and beauty. It's also an easy trip for us to make. I flew to Geneva for £80 return plus a couple of train tickets, so not too expensive.

My wife and I like to visit friends in Switzerland and France too and we both like walking in the mountains.

I also guess that we're lucky to get a lot of holiday time over here too, so hence all my trip reports.

I do fly back near my home town (in Shropshire), where my parents live (when I can) but the weather in the U.K has not been very kind to us this summer.

    Regards,
    Tony
