Do You Carry A Pocket Knife?

Recommended Posts

I use a multi-tool Leatherman. Actually the best knife I've owned so far. Has 1 phillips head, 1 flat head, a carabiner, which also doubles as a can opener, and of course, the knife blade itself, which has a straight and serrated egde. I've had several instances in which it has helped me immensely.

I also own a Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife). Unfortunately, due to knife laws, I can't carry it on me. Don't know why I would. Not much of a defense knife, and not very good as a tool either. Besides, until I actually get real training on how to use a knife in self defense, I'll never pull one. That's the most important aspect if considering a knife for self defense. You need to get training, and be proficient at it. A knife can easily be turned against you in the event you are not properly trained.

Fuck no, I'm a Democrat.

Actually, my Swiss Army knife is so old and worn out that it isn't much good - no matter what the manufacturer sez....

And Al Gore be damned, when he was Vice Pres and came to Boeing, I tried to get in to see him, but the Secret Service told me I had to part with my Swiss Army knife. I told them to get fucked and turned around and left.

I carry a knife in my pocket. I don't think it would be considered a pocket knife since the blade is 3.75 inches and in IL its illegal to carry anything over 3.5 in. Shhhh, keep it on the d/l.

dude thats a sissy blade. and who gives a fuck what the police says you can carry:P if youre scared say youre scared.

Knife thread got me thinking, personally never got into the habit of carrying one until recently. And thats simply for the pliers on them so i can take my slider off/on.

SHARP Buck knife. Concealed. And the Glock. Try me. ;)

Your poll needs a "sometimes" option.

I carry one when hiking, canoeing or shooting.
Otherwise, usually not.

I am finding myself really, really wishing I had not ever chanced to read that from you, JohnRich. [:/]

To the folks who lost knives to TSA and so stopped carrying them. Um, wha? Wouldn't it be better to not give up the utility of carrying a knife, and train yourself not to keep forgetting to put it into your checked bag?? :S

Steak and kidney for me please. I haven't had one since I left England in 1984.

First time was the last time, for me. I was at Middlesex University near East Barnet, Herts. The school's refectory had them on special one night, so for dinner I tried it. NEVER again. Damned thing tasted like urine, I swear to god. :S

That's wise.

Self defense is not the reason I carry a knife -- although a knife would be better than nothing in a last-ditch scenario. But for self defense, I carry a gun, not a knife. If the situation calls for lethal force (a knife is easily as lethal, or more so, than a gun), I want to be able to defend myself without being in arms' reach of my assailant. And it's not as though improper use of a knife is going to result in the law saying that it was "only" a knife, and going easy on you. So it might as well be a gun.

Specifically because you cannot make a knife useful unless your adversary can also grab you.

Yeah they do taste of piss! I can't eat anything with liver or kidney in. If you have to have a hot pie, chicken and vegetable is the king. :P

And no I don't carry a pocket knife because multi-tools are shit and knives with a useful blade are illegal here. Filthy stinking rozzers! Oh... wait.... :D

It's a human tragedy of epic proportions that any society has such trouble coming from its members in the form of criminal misbehavior that it opts to prohibit carry of one of mankind's oldest, most useful tools. >:(
