ifall 0 #26 August 28, 2008 I keep a Gerber in my Jeep at all times. Carry it on me when I'm doing something that might call for its use. Sure glad I had it on my person when I had a fish hook go all the way through my right index finger. This is the one I have. Love it!! http://www.gerber-tools.com/Gerber-Multi-Plier-400-compact-sport-black-5509.htm

aresye 0 #30 August 29, 2008 I use a multi-tool Leatherman. Actually the best knife I've owned so far. Has 1 phillips head, 1 flat head, a carabiner, which also doubles as a can opener, and of course, the knife blade itself, which has a straight and serrated egde. I've had several instances in which it has helped me immensely. I also own a Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife). Unfortunately, due to knife laws, I can't carry it on me. Don't know why I would. Not much of a defense knife, and not very good as a tool either. Besides, until I actually get real training on how to use a knife in self defense, I'll never pull one. That's the most important aspect if considering a knife for self defense. You need to get training, and be proficient at it. A knife can easily be turned against you in the event you are not properly trained.Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours. tbrown 26 #31 August 29, 2008 Fuck no, I'm a Democrat. Actually, my Swiss Army knife is so old and worn out that it isn't much good - no matter what the manufacturer sez.... And Al Gore be damned, when he was Vice Pres and came to Boeing, I tried to get in to see him, but the Secret Service told me I had to part with my Swiss Army knife. I told them to get fucked and turned around and left. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

skittles_of_SDC 0 #33 August 29, 2008 I carry a knife in my pocket. I don't think it would be considered a pocket knife since the blade is 3.75 inches and in IL its illegal to carry anything over 3.5 in. Shhhh, keep it on the d/l.

aresye 0 #35 August 29, 2008 If the knife's length is illegal anyway, may as well get caught with a 6" knife, rather than one .25" over the limit.Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.

birdlike 0 #45 August 29, 2008 Quote Your poll needs a "sometimes" option. I carry one when hiking, canoeing or shooting. Otherwise, usually not. I am finding myself really, really wishing I had not ever chanced to read that from you, JohnRich. To the folks who lost knives to TSA and so stopped carrying them. Um, wha? Wouldn't it be better to not give up the utility of carrying a knife, and train yourself not to keep forgetting to put it into your checked bag?? birdlike 0 #46 August 29, 2008 Quote Steak and kidney for me please. I haven't had one since I left England in 1984. First time was the last time, for me. I was at Middlesex University near East Barnet, Herts. The school's refectory had them on special one night, so for dinner I tried it. NEVER again. Damned thing tasted like urine, I swear to god. Not much of a defense knife, and not very good as a tool either. Besides, until I actually get real training on how to use a knife in self defense, I'll never pull one. That's wise. Self defense is not the reason I carry a knife -- although a knife would be better than nothing in a last-ditch scenario. But for self defense, I carry a gun, not a knife. If the situation calls for lethal force (a knife is easily as lethal, or more so, than a gun), I want to be able to defend myself without being in arms' reach of my assailant. And it's not as though improper use of a knife is going to result in the law saying that it was "only" a knife, and going easy on you. So it might as well be a gun. QuoteThat's the most important aspect if considering a knife for self defense. You need to get training, and be proficient at it. A knife can easily be turned against you in the event you are not properly trained. Scoop 0 #48 August 29, 2008 Yeah they do taste of piss! I can't eat anything with liver or kidney in. If you have to have a hot pie, chicken and vegetable is the king. And no I don't carry a pocket knife because multi-tools are shit and knives with a useful blade are illegal here. Filthy stinking rozzers! Oh... wait....
