I have some shrimp and scallops, I thought about throwing something together with those too. Help me out, Foodies! skymama 37 #5 August 29, 2008 I just heard a guy on tv say olive oil isn't good for the grill because it burns too quickly. NWFlyer 2 #6 August 29, 2008 I brush all my veggies with olive oil. Never had any issues. If you have cheaper olive oil this is a good use for it - don't waste the primo extra extra virgin stuff here!"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. chaoskitty 0 #7 August 29, 2008 I use olive oil to marinate for grilling all the time. I cook portabella caps just like Krisanne does them. They make an awesome wrap sandwich with grilled peppers and onions, and feta or provolone.. Grill, slice, and top off a turkey burger..
birdlike 0 #8 August 29, 2008 Get yourself a big Italian bread. Slather it with butter. Slather it with fresh minced garlic, Add a little salt. Slice the mushrooms and place them on the bread. Grate up some mozzarella cheese, maybe even some parmesan and spread it on the bread. Possibly add some artichoke hearts. Maybe some prosciutto or pepperoni. Wrap in foil and bake at about 350 for (not sure of the time, so keep checking after 15 minutes). OMG it's so awesome! Olive oil has one of the lower smoke-points of the cooking oils, yes. Peanut oil has one of the highest. I am not aware of whether that becomes an issue on the grill or not, as far as the 'shrooms are concerned. I haven't grilled 'shrooms.Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
froglady 0 #10 August 29, 2008 Portabella Burgers - Grill like mentioned, top with a mild cheese like Gouda, guacamole and a slice of tomato. Stuffed with crab meat and baked. Fettuccine Alfredo with sliced portabella mushrooms and fresh garlic. Saute with your seafood in a white wine, garlic and butter sauce. Serve over angle hair or other light weight pasta. Lightly drizzle some olive oil in the fins, sprinkle lightly with Parmesan, add garlic powder and lightly salt and pepper, cut a tomato the same diameter or the shroom about 3/8" thick, cover with mozzarella and broil on low until the mozz is a crispy golden brown. DougH 270 #14 August 29, 2008 One tip... when I grill them I like to use a spoon to scrape all the gills out (the brown stuff under the cap). They keep a much firmer burger like texture that way."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
