DougH 270 #7 August 27, 2008 I am on the oposite end of the scale right now. Busy season at work so I have been getting about three hours a night. It is going to be like this until the middle of september. It is either I cut into the sleep time, or I cut into the other parts of my life that aren't work and sleep. I would rather give up the sleep that have a life right now that is only... work... sleep... wake... work. Darius11 12 #11 August 27, 2008 I have been having the same issue for the first time in my life. I have usually been one of those people who can sleep on concrete or a rock and be zzzzzzzzzzzzz in less then a few minutes. I try counting sheep and picking colors for them. It makes my mind stop and focus on something that does not cause stress. It works It just always occurs to me that I should do it after 4 am has come and goon. Good luck not sleeping sucks I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
jimmytavino 16 #12 August 27, 2008 sleep loss will get the better of you in a hurry,,, so it's good you're asking about this..... Are you getting enough physical activity in a day to become tired??... some jobs are strenuous, (skilled trades, nursing, farm/Ag ) and other jobs are not... ( Office person, Desk work )... Do you excersize at all?? every day??? we need to make ourselves tired every day, so that we will sleep. and for some people that can be toughDumpster is right...in the sense that any and all good cardio workouts are beneficial and help make us tired... Can you adjust you daily schedule, and try to 'unwind ' in whatever way works, at roughly the same time each day. Is your work weighing TOOO heavily on your mind?? Are you able to leave your work AT work?? so to speak? Try to plan for a regular hour each night , at which time you'll go to sleep. what worked for many people , as children, might also work for them as grownups.. beyond that, consider asking for a prescription, after speaking with your doctor. even a half tablet of ambien seems to work for many... still ,, if you become more active, AND follow good nutrition guidelines,, a good nights sleep, should result... good luck... jmy

millertimeunc 0 #14 August 27, 2008 +1 on the Ambien. We had to ground test them here at pilot training since the Air Force uses them as "No Go" pills. Knocked my 6', 185lb. ass out in about 20 minutes, and was the best sleep of my life. Don't know about taking it with alcohol, though... The best things in life are dangerous. Gato 0 #17 September 3, 2008 This one's difficult, but I know for a fact that it works: My doctor informed me that a normal dose of caffeine will last up to 8 hours, so as an experiment, I eliminated ALL caffeine after 12 noon. The difference it's made in my sleep has been remarkable - I could only get 5 or 6 hours of sleep before, plus there was at least once a night when I'd have to get up to use the bathroom. Now, no more bathroom trips at 3am, and I'm getting 8 to 9 hours pretty consistently - except for weekends at the DZ, of course.T.I.N.S.
