pincheck 0 #1 September 9, 2008 Had a great day yesterday Me and friend left at 4am to get to the base of the walk By 6am so arriving in the Ski centre car park at Aviemore our hearts dropped after. I had checked 3 different weather sites that morning for latest regional info which had all came back good for walking. The place was like the last time we where here visibility was 100metres at best. We had our maps and compass so getting lost wasn't going to be a problem. we set off the first part was easy as its a walk up the paths used to service the ski slopes where you then branch off the choire chais up following the staircase to the top of Coire An t-sneachda. here we broke out the cameras as Joy of joy the low cloud had sank below us @ about the 2000ft mark). http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3130/2841868735_8363406c45.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3026/2841874829_13333b8121.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2107/2842732290_4d7a9b28c3.jpg It remained this way for the whole day only spoke to about 4 other hill-walkers, seeing 6 in total. 2 of those where the Mountain Rangers with Millie the rescue dog. who we where glad we bumped into as there was one guy we did inform them about who was carrying far to much gear and was struggling we did confirm his location and the route he had planed to take to the rangers, just in case they needed to keep a eye on him. Did advise him his route was overly ambitious for him and advised to camp over night and return the next day. we continued on out walk down the south east side of Ben Macdui after having lunch on top coming down By loch Etchachan and Loch Avon by Stone shelter then up Coire Raibeirt. back down for a very expensive tea and Carmel short cake at the ski centre bar but so worth it http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3066/2841873731_c4cf6e68f1.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3232/2842740416_11732eb8de.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3177/2842821020_d27a16c3db.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2195/2842038037_c8326129d2.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3165/2842050775_5827b41ba0.jpg these are only a few the rest are on my flickr page here hope you enjoy Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun

JohnRich 4 #8 September 9, 2008 Quotearriving in the Ski centre car park at Aviemore... Wow! Gorgeous scenery! What country is this? What are those "U" shaped rock walls? Are those campsites where the ground has been cleared for tents, and the rock walls serve as a windbreak?
