StreetScooby 5 #1 September 8, 2008 We have a fruit fly infestation. Somehow, a whole flock of them were attracted to a sponge in our downstairs sink. It took a few days to figure this out since they only came home to "roost" at night. I've never since something like this before. We got most of them, and we have fly paper everywhere, but there are small remnants that keep cropping up. Any ideas how to deal with this?We are all engines of karma
DeNReN 0 #2 September 9, 2008 Damn fruit flies .......sorry dont have a solution to your problem but a glass of white vinegar covered with plastic wrap with small holes in the top is a good trap for the little fackers...

My nephew left an empty pop can on the counter. They were EVERYWHERE. I put the can in the recycle outside and cleaned the counter. A few hours later, there were still some there. Sprayed the tile and counter with Windex and wiped it up. So far, they're gone. Maybe there's something to what that Greek guy said in that movie. Seriously, clean everything REALLY well. Bleach might help. Maybe they're enjoying what's left in the drain of the sink. And good luck. They're ANNOYING little fucks.'Shell
FlyingJ 0 #4 September 9, 2008 I was battling the flies just a couple nights ago myself. I pulled some pork out of the freezer for dinner about a week ago and in preparing it I must have dropped the freezer bag it came out of down the crack next to the fridge. A couple nights back I noticed that there were an abundance of flies in the apt. It was killing me that I couldn't figure out where the heck they were coming from. Thankfully I knocked over a glass that spilled down the same crack next to the fridge and I found the bag, with maggots crawling all over inside the bag just waiting to become more flies! That was all of 2 or 3 days to go from nothing to flies and maggots galore! I just tossed the bag in the outside trash and spent the rest of the evening with a fly swatter in hand. I guess they must have a pretty short lifespan because I know I didn't get them all but haven't seen more than one or two in the last couple days. Killing threads since 2004. StreetScooby 5 #5 September 9, 2008 Thanks guys for your input. Cleaning everything really well is the next. We do keep our kitchen area clean, but they're definitely coming from some other place. I now need to check the basement room to see if one of the kids ate something there and left it down a crack. We are all engines of karma

You don't even have to put holes in it, as they will land in the vinegar and can't get out. I've done this and it works.Skymama's #2 stalker -

FlyingJ 0 #8 September 9, 2008 It really doesn't take much. I once had an infestation in my apartment and found it was from a tiny piece of banana that had fallen on the floor and gotten kicked under the cabinet. Took about 3 weeks to figure out where the flies were coming from. That time we got so frustrated we called an exterminator to come out and do a free look-see as a precursor to starting service with them. We just played dumb college kids and asked him if there was any way he could just spray around the kitchen as long as he was here. No charge, did the trick and we never did start service. dixiegypsy 0 #10 September 10, 2008 pour bleach down your drains & then tape them shut...they love the drain. you may find larvae on the tape when you remove it...if this is the case, keep taping & bleaching until they're all gone (keep 'em taped for as long as possible aka when the sink isn't being used) use apple cider vinegar & add a few drops off dish soap to a glass...put a few glasses in various locations around the infested area. i had a horrible infestation caused from potatoes and a dumb roommate and this did the job!
