Does anything alert them to any given individual seat belt not being buckled?

No

It's funny when we land I have to tell people to remain seated with seatbelt securely fastend, until the aircraft has come to a COMPLETE STOP at the gate. It never fails while still on a active taxi way people unbuckle and while pulling up to the gate you hear CLICK....CLICK.....CLICK.....CLICK.

So the other flight attendant gets on the pa and says
"our seltbelt indicators have showen that some of you have unfasted your seatbelts then you hear CLICK....CLICK....CLICK....CLICK.
I was in my jumpseat laughing.

So yea we do have seat belt indicators they are called eyes and ears.:P
Playtime is essential.

I remember a discussion similar to this early in the season at the dz with one of the AFF instructors. We weren't discussing getting out of the plane in case of a crash but instead what we as a skydiver might do on the off chance a plane broke apart at altitude and suddenly many of the passengers found themselves in freefall.

The general consensous was that we would probably fly around and try and build formations or fly about and make faces at everyone (goofy faces and such...) hey... you don't have a hell of a long time to live... you've got to do something... :D

hard track perpendicular to jump..er.. crash run. the investigators w ill have a heckofa time trying to figure out how the one body got so far from everything else

I'd put my rig on.

As calmly as possible, get to the back of the plane... hope as a stragety that by being calm I could make it there without being stopped.

Grab that telephone / intercomm thingy that the flight attendandts use to talk to the crew in the cockpit.

Blow the aft door.

Ask the pilot for 5-Right-And-CUT! ... to get it on the voice recorders.

And then leave!

:D:D:D:D

[:/]

Yeah, right, like if you were on a commercial flight with your rig and something went wrong with the aircraft and you'd be able to put your rig on and get out... yeah... that's going to happen. NOT!

... buuuuut, if you were able to un-ass yourself from a striken airliner, you'd be a God on what ever Drop Zone you ever set foot on for the rest of your life. :P

You just made me flash on Bungee Wallace. He left Perris one early evening in his own plane after a meet and on the way home he had a mid-air collision with another aircraft. His rig was in a gear bag in the back seat.

I'm not sure if he was thrown out or he jumped but Bungee, known for his tracking ability, was found a couple of miles from the wreckage and perpendicular to the line of flight. And everyone who knew him knows he burned in tracking as hard as he could. The four or five people in the other plane were also killed.

(Note to nervous guy: Freakish enough not to worry about. But there's been a jump plane mid-air or two, so you're not altogether off the hook.)
