Odd Dreams

Recommended Posts

A post in a different thread made me think about dreams... and since I didn't want to hijack that thread, I decided to post my own.

Last night... I dreamt about sitting around a table with some hitmen/contract killers. One of them, a rather unattractive female, just melted into a talking jello puddle.... yup. Kinda odd there.

Who else has odd dreams?

Not really - I knew women like that in high school...

Usually, I have whacked out dreams. Lately though they've been very demonic/hellish in nature :| (no I'm not watching horror movies.)

Whatever happened to a good o'le wet dream?... :o:);)

Or skydiving...anything besides the one's I've been having.

Nope... no Cancer Man. But... I've had odd dreams since before I ever watched XFiles.

Earliest one was when I was about 6 or 7 and dreamt about a werewolf type beastie outside the house playing in the backyard. Always have had odd dreams. (most of the time I really like them and find them quite entertaining... but sometimes I wonder what might be wrong with the synapses)

Due to the variety of dreams I've had in the past, I've realized one of two things must be true:
a) Dreams are the meaningless artifacts of the unconscious brain.
b) I'm f***ing nuts.

I'm hoping for "a".:S

Actually much dream research has indicated that dreams are in fact the unconsious mind's attempt to work out either wishes, or fears. The real question becomes, which one is it?

Some things we think about can become intertwined as both wishes and fears.

The thing I think is so freaky about dreams is the way you can be in a certain setting - your house, etc., where you know every nook and cranny of - and yet the dream jacks it up and put doors where there aren't any, move rooms around. That sort of pisses me off... :>)

Say what you want but there is a "normal" catagory and YOUR not in it!!!:P

I'm just a normal girl that happens to be a normal doctor in a normal town that does normal things (skydiving is normal) and is normally married to a normal guy (who happens to own a normal company and has been an international arms dealer of sorts.... ) I just have odd dreams. B|

Time to revive the odd dream thread.

Last night I went to France with a group. But, I ended up getting separated from my group. Very disorienting - All the buildings look to have been designed by Frank Llyod Wright and navigating the city was difficult on my own. There was a public execution going on and there were masses of peoples. I kept trying to text or call my husband, but my phone didn't work. I couldn't speak French.

In the masses, I happened to run into some friends from my dropzone here in KC. They weren't overly helpful in getting back with "my group" but I didn't seem to mind.

Then I ran into "this guy" (no idea who "he" is) but just started walking about town with him. Then someone stole his candy cane made of pipe cleaners. I was MAD. So I stole it back. Cops were called. Since I couldn't speak French, they wrote it all down (and some how I understood that) Turned out it was his twin brother.

Woke up just CONFUSED with my sub-conscious.

Umm, weird that you posted this today but I'm glad, because last night I had two really fucked up dreams about my two younger brothers.

In the first one, the middle child started living in his own apartment. It was cool, I was happy for him - until I went to use the bathroom and saw that there were a bunch of dead bodies piled up in the bathtub. Apparently, little bro Jay turned into a serial killer. Nice, huh? I watched Disturbia earlier in the night and anyone who's seen it knows about the part where the main guy (forgot his name) falls through the floor into the water. I'm sure that's what made me see the bathtub of bodies. Still fucked up, though.

In the second dream, my youngest brother Matt was in a fight with a group of guys. A red Pathfinder drove up to our house and stopped and a guy started running towards the front door with a knife in his hand. I grabbed a knife, headed outside to step in front of my bro. I didn't let the guy get my brother, but in the meantime one of his friends managed to sneak in the house. I hear a gunshot, run upstairs and see my brother on the ground and this skinny kid walking out towards me with the gun. I grabbed the kid by his head, totally Steven Seagal'd his ass and broke his neck and then punched his face a few times just in case, and let him drop to the ground, dead...

... then my brother stands up and says "I was wearing a bulletproof vest".

So yeah, now tell me you have fucked up dreams. I must be crazy!!!

OK... today got me thinking more and more about the odd dreams.

WHY?! Just for fun? Too much MSG (mmmmmm.... msg!) Is there rhyme or reason?

Did a few searches and it seems that dreams are quite important in "offline memory processing." (maybe not the content of the dreams, but the rapid eye movement portion of sleep)

I was under the impression that REM sleep and dreaming occur at different times during the sleep cycle

Dreams are typically thought to occur during REM stage of sleep, but there have been studies (esp during daytime napping) where dreams are not associated with REM pattern sleep. :)

Lucid dreams do not occur during REM cycles, with me at least they occure either just prior to waking or just prior to falling to deep sleep
