weegegirl 2 #1 March 13, 2008 (THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR DONATIONS, SO PLEASE KEEP READING. THIS IS SIMPLY FOR YOUR INFORMATION. THANK YOU!) Hi! A few skydivers have formed a team, Free the Puppies, to walk in the 2008 Washington, DC Breast Cancer 3-Day event. (see here: Free the Puppies) The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment. I have created a Myspace page for our team if you are intrested in learning more (http://www.myspace.com/freethepuppies_3day). This is not an advertisement or a request for donations, I just thought you all might want to be aware that this group exists. We'd love to have more members, whether it be for this event or any event that raises awareness and funds in the fight against any kind of cancer. I know I have read some pretty heartbreaking stories over the years on dropzone.com from skydivers who have lost family members and friends to cancer. Personally, I lost my father two years ago to lung cancer and many of you provided support for me. Skydivers Against Cancer and Team Free the Puppies is a great way for you to get involved in something healthy that can really make a difference. Feel free to send me a PM if you are interested and want more information on how to get involved or how you can donate money or time to the 3day event. Thanks for reading! Misternatural 0 #3 March 13, 2008 Hi I just had a friend visit last week who is done with treatments for stage 3 breast cancer..Some of the treatments are still as arcane as when my mom died in the early 90's- still using some of those same harsh drugs with horrible side effects.... On a bright side Genentech recently got FDA approval for the use of Avastin in breast cancer treatment because of positive clinical trial results. More of this kind of research is definitely needed.Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415
micduran 0 #4 March 13, 2008 I've been looking into the 3-day here in Atlanta. Maybe I'll try to get some local jumpers to walk it with me. I had a breast cancer scare a few years ago and am grateful that was only a scare.Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours. Peregrinerose and I are trying to coordinate so that we have one general presence in both the Philly and DC walks. Skydivers Against Cancer Thanks everyone who is helping to raise awareness. If you are participating in ANY fundraising event for the fight against cancer please let us know and we will coordinate. I plan on making a website soon and having a place to promote all of the teams. THANK YOU!

weegegirl 2 #8 March 13, 2008 QuoteI just signed up the "Get Started Meeting". If we get a team together, I'll let you know. TOO COOL!!!! Just do it! You won't regret it. I promise!!! It's an awesome event for many reasons. First off, you are raising money for an incredibly important cause! And second, you are going to get in great shape training to walk 60 miles!! And third, you meet some really cool people when you get involved with an event like this. Congratulations for making that first step!

weegegirl 2 #10 March 26, 2008 That's awesome! There are now 9 skydiver chicks walking in the three different 3 days. There is still plenty of time for the boys and girls to get involved! So get on it!!!

So get on it!!! For those of you who want to get involved in other ways, I can also suggest crew or volunteering for this event. I've done both and it's a great way to support the walkers and the event. Crew is the bigger commitment, but you also get to see and experience the event in a much more robust way. You're there all three days (plus the day before), you'll camp with the walkers, and you will ensure that the entire support infrastructure need to run an event of this scale happens. There's a huge range of roles that you can play on the crew. Volunteers generally get involved before the event, and during closing and opening ceremonies. At closing ceremonies, some of the volunteers will take over from the crew members so that crew members will be able to attend the closing ceremonies with everyone else who's been part of the full event. Just another way to be a part of this great event. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. DFWAJG 4 #12 March 27, 2008 Everybody, go out to get the book The China Study by T. Collin Campbell and Thomas Campbell. It is a book that illustrates how a whole foods, plant based diet is proven to be effective in Cancer prevention and in other ills. CAncer is preventable. But only if we are willing to change our lifestyles.
chaoskitty 0 #13 September 14, 2008 The hard core training has begun! I did my first back to back training walks this weekend. 15 miles through NW Atlanta yesterday, and 16.5 miles through midtown, Piedmont, VA highland, etc. today. I'm kinda proud of me, and my friends who did it with me! My feet hurt.. but my ass looks awesome!
