Anyone from Alameda?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I will be moving to Alameda in November. She is in the Coast Guard, thats the reason. Just wondering how it is there, nice area? I see it is close to Oakland. If we don't get base housing right away, how is the part of Oakland that is closest? Or would it be better to find a place in Alameda, or elsewhere even.

As far as skydiving goes, it looks like Davis, Byron, and Lodi are all close to the same distance. We've been jumping at Skydance, but we're thinking of checking out Lodi this weekend. We are living in Petaluma at the moment. She is training here, we've only been in CA for about 2 months now. It's not too far of a drive down, but from the couple of times we've driven to San Francisco, and coming in through Oakland, we haven't gotten up the will to make the drive due to traffic.

We really like it here in the Bay Area so far. We both grew up in South Carolina, so it's been an experience so far. Nice weather, hasn't rained a drop since we got here in late JuneB|. Looking forward to meeting new people. Skydance is a great DZ, haven't met too many people there yet though. Anyone jump at Lodi? What's the DZO's choice of beer? If I don't get an answer to that, I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow to check. Looking forward to meeting a few more DZ.com peeps that jump out here on the left coast. :)

Well, hell. Say hi next time you're there.

We were the ones walking on the slackline last weekend.

Definitely say hi to the Bytch. She's good peeps. B| And I will make it out there one of these days to catch up with you two - it's been too long since Scott Miller's course! I gotta move into my apartment this weekend, though.

As for Alameda, I don't know too much about it specifically, but I think that in general it tends to be safer and rents are going to be higher than Oakland. Oakland's going to vary greatly neighborhood by neighborhood safety-wise - having just conducted an apartment search in Oakland, I'll be glad to share my experiences with you, though I'm still a total noob to the area, so I don't know all that much.

It has been a long time. From the web it seemed Alameda would be more expensive. I may just call on your experience if we don't get housing with the CG. :)
Hope to see you out and about soon. I will introduce myself next time out, in fact there were a few people giving me a hard time about Lisa packing. So have a face to put with a name now, and will be sure to say hello.

edit to add: My wife's name is Lisa also (although Krisanne knows that)

I live a stones throw on the other side of the estuary in Oakland. Have several non-skydiving friends that live over there. I'll be happy to answer any questions I can about the neighborhoods near the base.

BlueSkiesKel used to be stationed there. She might be able to help.
50 donations so far. Give it a try.
