mamajumps 0 #1 September 23, 2008 My boyfriend loves angel food cake and I am wanting to bake a cake for his bday this Saturday. However, I would like to make him his favorite, but in order for it to fit into what I want to do, I would need to put conventional frosting on the angel food cake which isnt normally done, do ya'll think this would turn out ok? Thanks!

vskydiver 0 #5 September 23, 2008 Angel food cake is very light and fluffy. If you do put a frosting on it you'll need to water it down a bit and kind of drizzle it on. If you make your own frosting you could just add a little extra milk to the mixture to make it more runny. I don't think it would work to well to spread thick frosting on it like a normal cake because it would probably tear apart. When you bake it, make sure you use a cake pan that is made for an angel food cake. They usually have little "feet" on the top of the pan so after you take it out of the oven you can tip it upside down and rest it on the "feet" while it cools. You can't grease the cake pan either. So you may have to use a knife to slide around the edges of the pan to get the cake out.

vskydiver 0 #7 September 23, 2008 Also here is another idea: Whipped Cream Icing 1 tsp Unflavored gelatin 4 tsp Cold water 1 cup Whipping cream 1/4 cup powdered sugar 1/2 tsp. Clear vanilla extract Combine gelatin and cold water in small sauce pan. Let stand until thick. Place over low heat stirring constantly until gelatin dissolves (about 3 minutes). Remove from heat and cool slightly. Whip cream, sugar and vanilla until slightly thickened. While beating slowly, gradually add gelatin to whipped cream mixture. Whip at high speed until stiff. Yield: 2 cups.

vskydiver 0 #9 September 23, 2008 You could also put the Whipped cream frosting on it and then sprinkle those little colored candy balls cake sprinkles. That would be really festive and fun. Or you could slice up some fresh strawberries and put those on top, kind of a strawberries and whipped cream thing. Yummy! There is lots of things you could do with the whipped cream!
