NickDG 23 #1 October 1, 2008 This is a new one on me . . . Almost like launching and trapping a jet powered glider! Also, I didn't know they could dial down the cat shots to this slow . . . You can actually see in one shot someone running along holding the wing. http://www.creativefission.com/Frame_MOV_Carrier320x240.html NickD
 akjmpplt 0 #2 October 1, 2008 The U-2 wasn't using the catapult. Notice there is no bridle or shuttle attachment.SmugMug
 JohnMitchell 16 #3 October 1, 2008 That is amazing. I can't think of an aircraft harder to make a carrier approach in than the U-2. Even with full flaps, it's extremely floaty with a very shallow approach angle, a very dangerous thing when you're trying to clear the fantail and then catch a 3 wire. It's approach speed is very close to stall speed. In fact, chase cars with radios are used on normal runway landings to assist the pilots flying those recalcitrant beasts. That is one hell of a great job of flying. Here are a few I seen before that made my jaw drop. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfwJJD5jGXkIf you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
