Powerpoint Question

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a project for my kids, documenting their upbringing with all the family photos and stories. I'm using Powerpoint to tell the story and present the images.

When I e-mail a Powerpoint file to someone, and they click on it, I want the file to immediately launch into the presentation with the first screen. (See image #2, attached)

But instead, it goes to the Powerpoint setup screen (see image #1, attached). From there, the recipient has to click "slide show", and "view show", to get started. I want to skip all that confusing stuff on that screen and have it go directly into the presentation.

So the question is, how do I transmit the file so that it will do that?

it sounds like you want to save it as a powerpoint SHOW... instead of a powerpoint presentation...

do a "Save As..." and there should be an option to save it as a "Powerpoint Show" this will save a file with a "*.pps" extenstion and will open directly into the show (your second image) when anyone double clicks on it...

of course your question has probably already been answered.

File
Save As
Powerpoint show (pps)

Aha! I hadn't even noticed that little option, as it is only visible if you scroll down on the "save as" screen.

That's simple enough. Thanks!

As you can tell, I'm a bit new at Powerpoint. I'm learning it by the seat of my pants.

Powerpoint is a tool made by the devil himself.

I'm not having much trouble with it, but I'm just doing basic stuff. It's easy for me to learn without professional training, because I already know MS-Word, and Powerpoint seems just like Word, except that instead of dealing with document pages, you're working with screen images. All the same thing really, just different sizes.

I was going to download some additional background texture files from the web, but I can't for the life of me find where the existing background files are stored on my computer (Windows 2000). From what research I did on the web, they should be in the Program Files/Microsoft Office folder, but they don't seem to be there. Anyone got a clue where those are hidden, so that I can add more files?

And now you know just one of the many "joys" of Powerpoint; resource management.

Yes, it is easy to get basic stuff to work on YOUR machine and as long as that's where it's going to stay you'll probably be fine. I'll also admit that there are ways to ensure that files do get moved properly when sending from one machine to another, however, because the program "seems" easy to use, most people don't do things properly and things frequently get left behind or become unusable.
