airdvr 210 #1 October 19, 2008 I've always preferred 2 boards strapped to my feet but my son loves snowboards. His was stolen last year and it's time to replace it for his birthday or christmas. He's 5'11" wieghs 240 wears a size 12 shoe He's and intermediate boarder. I'm wondering about the correct length and width. I think I know he needs a stiffer boards becasue he's so big but I'm concerned about the length and the width. I don't want his boots hanging over the edges. Please don't dent the planet. d_squared431 0 #2 October 19, 2008 K2 makes some great boards for people with bigger feet as well as Ride, Burton, and oxygen. Then the question would be is he into freestyle, all mnt, or alpine boards? The size of the board varies by style of riding. I love Burton and Joyride but that is just me. Feel free to Pm with any questions if you need more specific help on boards.TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly
davelepka 4 #3 October 19, 2008 Get him a gift certificate for a local shop, or an online store. I would bet that he's got a good idea of what he wants (and doesn't want). It would be like somebody trying to order a rig for you. The odds of getting the exact model, options and colors that you would pick are slim to none. Either way, he's a lucky kid. Rookie120 0 #4 October 20, 2008 With a bog man like that I would suggest the Lib-Tech Skunk Ape. It is a wide board for his foot. It is great for all around riding. Plus the new technology in the board with the Magne-Traction is awesome. For his height I would recommend the 162 wide. Plus the graphics on the board kicks ass! You will not be sorry on this bad board. It is a great ride. http://www.lib-tech.com/snowboards/skunkApe.htmlIf you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! Redline165 0 #5 October 20, 2008 im 6'1, 170ish and have 12ish feet. i ride a Burton King 160cm. id go to a gear shop and get a gift card. let him pick it out, i also ride a wide board just because i prefur it. I ride east coast so its alot of ice, as out west tends to have more powder. I can use a standard width, but i do alot of carving and for some reason it seems to work better for me. Bindings are best to definatly have him there for, unless you steal his boots. haha.
Rookie120 0 #6 October 20, 2008 Quotei ride a Burton King 160cm. When I was in livin in Colorado I switched from a Burton Canyon which is a carving machine. What a great board to a K-2 Ambush. Another great board to carve and haul ass with. When I go to the bowls with deep powder I went to my Burton Fish. What a powder rider that thing is. I have about 6 more different boards but those are the ones I rode the most. I miss ridin out west.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! livendive 8 #7 October 20, 2008 What kind of riding does he do? Is he hanging in the park all day, cruizing the groomed runs, or playing in the trees? Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Age is what drove me out of the pipe, not weight. If this kid is a teenager, it seems to me that he's more likely in the park than in the trees. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" And that PAIN would stay around for days instead on minutes. I couldnt take the beating any more. It was a lot of fun while it lasted. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! d_squared431 0 #15 October 21, 2008 Since he likes the park go with a 158-160 and that would be a great jib board for him. If he wants an all around board to cruise around the mountain as well as play in the park then go with 160-163. I still suggest Burton or K2, you can't go wrong with the 2 of those boards.Based on how many days per season he gets he will be happy with whatever you get him. Remember it isn't the board that makes the rider. But it helps .....I taught for years and also competed. My average time on the mountain per season(pre and post) would be 100-150 days times 10years(2 of those years I only got 20ish days due injuries). I am 5'3 and should ride a 150-156 for all mountain. I have used everything from a 138-168 and my favorite board I ever had was a Joyride 146 (wide)was a little board but that thing rocked in the park as well as powder. livendive 8 #16 October 21, 2008 It's the truth this woman speaks. As a bigger guy myself, I'd go with the higher end of her scales...the 158 will work just fine as a dedicated park board, but get a foot off the groomed and his back leg will be cramping trying to float it. The 163 sounds pretty good for all-purpose riding and decent maneuverability in the park. And no, he can't have my Supermodel 168. I love her (even though I've been neglecting her lately). Blues, Dave Have you tried the palmer cants for your board?(they are old school) They work great to give a little more angle and lift for the bigger guys. Also custom foot beds can help. I have used both. You'll notice a big difference and they take the pressure off. here is a linkhttp://www.alpinecarving.com/binding_setup.htmlTPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly

d_squared431 0 #19 October 21, 2008 It does depend on the type of powder you are riding in. If it is thick and heavy then nothing you do will help with leg cramp but sitting in the bar having a few beers.....
