I'm Smoked In :-(

Recommended Posts

There's been a forest fire in my "neighborhood" since Tuesday afternoon. Traffic has been fucked all week because the main road is closed. It took me almost 2 1/2 hours to do a normally 1 hour commute Tuesday night. :|

This morning I wake up and I can't even see my neighbor's house across the street from the smoke. I leave my garage, drive down the street and almost hit 3 parked cars. The smoke was so thick I felt disoriented and thought I was getting dizzy.

I finally make it to the main road and run a stop sign and a traffic light, almost being t-boned by a tractor trailer. After that little wake up call I told myself FUCK THAT, turn around and go home before I end up a fucking statistic.

So, I called my boss and said I CAN'T come in today, I can't even see to drive, it was absolutely too dangerous to stay on the road. Everyone was driving with their flashers on or were pulled over halfway on the road. I felt a migraine with vertigo coming on. I hope it wanes if I can relax now that I'm home.

Here I am on a Friday morning, smoked IN, can't get to work, and couldn't get to the DZ if I even knew if the weather was good (which I have no idea if it's sunny/foggy/whatever. And I was out last night with DZ friends after the sunset load and I was joking about how jealous I am that they would be jumping tomorrow when I was at work. :P

This blows. :S

They were talkin about that on the radio when I was drivin home from work today from Newark. They said it was pretty bad. Glad I didnt have to drive anywhere near that. Good choice on turnin around and callin it a day. Enjoy your day off with a nice cold one.;)

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

"a normally 1 hour commute "

Wow, that's 21 days or 500 waking hours per year of you life wasted. I did the same thing for way too long.

I used to commute between Orange County and downtown Los Angeles every day for 5 years. I actually found it nice to wind up and wind down. And I've got Sirius in my car now. Just that much better. And my commute is now 10 minutes. I wish it was longer.

Yuck! And I thought commuting from the San Gabriel Valley to L.A. was bad. (years ago)

Lucky... hang in there with the smoke. It was a good choice not to drive.

I guess since it's only 10:30am I'll wait until my home's beer light comes on. That would be about 6 or 7pm. :P

It's actually more like 1 hour 20 minutes because of the traffic volume heading into/out of Trenton during rush hour.

And I actually moved closer to work a few years ago when I built my house in Hammonton. I used to live almost 2 hours away (each way). That sucked.

I wish I got paid for travel time!

I was always planning on getting books on tape for learning Latin or some shit like that. Ended up with a bunch of Stephen King - brain didn't get better, fear of clowns, cats, and classic cars got worse.

Beautiful downtown Ft. Dix:|

My condolences. ;) I had to go up through Chatsworth yesterday morning and then through that area to get to Route 206. :|

I have an uncle and aunt that live near Chatsworth. It's the area where bodies turn up in the woods I think. Maybe that's how the fire started[:/]
It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude.

We went down to SanDiego last year when they had their wildfires. It was crazy.....we would drive through towns and no one would be there as they were evacuated --very creepy. Enjoy your day off - wish I was having one.;)
