HydroGuy 0 #1 November 17, 2005 I am looking to buy a container specifically for some hop and pops...with a 266 BASE canopy. I am ~6' on the nose and 165-170#'s. I think anything I find on the used market will require getting a bunch of rigging done so that it will fit me, as most people with canopies this size will be much larger than myself. Who makes the cheapest custom container that will hold a 266 main with thick lines and whatever size reserve? Doesn't have to be freefly friendly, doesn't need any special options.Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
sundevil777 102 #2 November 17, 2005 Dolphins I think have the lowest pricetag. Used student containers might be an option.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
councilman24 37 #3 November 17, 2005 I think that you should be able to find something used. Used student equipment, older vectors V-8's or Javelin J-7s should work. I jumped a Raven IV in a V-8 at 5'10 and 180lbs for a while in the late 80's. I'm helping a DZ liquidate and may be able to find something in the old equipment that is airworthy. I know of one rig J7 that has a main but no reserve. He may be willing to split it up. Gear in this size range built for non zp canopies should be available. I have a rig that would work if it was my CRW rig with a 193 lightning in it. I can think of some other older rigs that are airworthy but not modern enough for most. Don't give up so easily.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
TomAiello 26 #4 November 17, 2005 Try cruising the classifieds. I bought a used J-7 from the Raeford gear shop (for pretty much the same thing you want one for) that fits my FOX 265 comfortably, and my Troll 290 with some squeezing. It cost me $300 (with a reserve) about 5 years ago. Mine was an old GK accuracy rig (at least, it looked like that was the patch that had been pulled off it, and coming from Raeford that makes sense), so you might try finding an accuracy jumper who is selling used gear.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
dragon2 2 #5 November 17, 2005 I've got an old vector for sale that fits your base canopy (currently holds a foil 282) and is real cheap, see classifieds ciel bleu, Saskia
GravityGirl 0 #6 November 17, 2005 Used student rig? I may be able to help you find one. Otherwise a generic (no hip rings or any options) Wings has a low price point. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
Superman32 0 #7 November 17, 2005 For what purpose would you need a container and such big canopy to do hopn'pops? Is it for accuracy, or to jump base? Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches!
kelpdiver 2 #8 November 17, 2005 I think he's looking to put in some substantial training time on the BASE canopy, in wide open sky. But per the FARs, if you use a plane, you need a dual canopy rig.

My Flik or RockDragon BASE canopy will be 266 square feet - with longer, mucho thicker lines to go with it. I want to do a bunch of hop and pops with my actual BASE canopy before I take a first jump course in the Spring. I want to learn to land this canopy where I want on rear risers in armor on a grass strip with a wind sock...as opposed to a parking lot or boulder fieldGet in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary

I am ~6' on the nose and 165-170#'s. - Buying an inexpensive container and having the harness resized will be cheaper than the least expensive new rig - You shouldn't have a problem finding a rig that fits. I paid $700 for a Javelin J7 + Raven III reserve that actually fits me reasonably well (5'10 150 pounds). - And a rig that doesn't fit well won't be too far off, especially compared to one-size-fits-none student rigs on smaller people.
