Vectracide 0 #1 November 15, 2005 I am going to be making my own weight belt, and I need sheet goods for the project and I dont know where to purchase these materials. Exactly what kind of material is the best for this? Cordura nylon? What denier would be sufficient for a 25 lb. belt? I am also going to be padding the belt. Suggestions on the foam type please. If someone has some some left over material that they could sell me for a good price, please let me know. Thank ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... councilman24 37 #2 November 15, 2005 You can get cordura at any large local fabric store. Webbing and hardware suitable MAY be available at an army surplus, camping, outdoor type store. Or get from Paragear. Padding? I've used polyester batting to pad a VCR case. Another local option is a cheap closed cell sleeping pad. I've seen some surplus G.I. for $10. In case your wondering most home machines will handle #18 needles and 69 nylon upholstery thread (same as e thread).I'm old for my age. Vectracide 0 #3 November 15, 2005 Ya know, it seems that every time I go into my local fabric store, they look at me like I am asking for a yard of human skin. The never have anything I need, so I haven't bothered to check there. I'll give it another go. That denier would be sufficent? The hardware, I will probably get from my rigger, or a local store. The sleeping pad idea is great. Its just thick enough with the right kind of firmness. As far as my machine, I have a old Singer 95-100. Should I purchase a 3/4 binder from Para-gear, or purchase them as a set that has the cut out in the throat plate to allow the binder to set level with the plate? And by the way, what is with the huge price difference between a spool of E-thread and type HB69 if they are the same? E cost me like 25 and 69 was only 9 bucks. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....
mjosparky 4 #4 November 15, 2005 Try a local upholsters supply store. I have both 1000 denier cordura and webbing there. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Thank _____________________________________ I've made several weight belts for folks and have found that Nylon para-pack works real good. As for padding, I use the same as what is used on leg-strap pads with para-pack backing. I get it through Parachute Equipment Co. in Virginia, as well as webbing. For the plastic hardware, I get that through local fabric stores. Chuck
