How to store my gear over winter

Recommended Posts

Hey all........

This is my first winter with my own gear...My reserve is now out of date and I don't plan on jumping till spring time....unless some serious cash starts flowing and I can make a few trips to vegas or florida over the winter....

Anyways my ??? is, anything in particular I should do to store my rig during my off season.......

Thanks

Nylon webbing and material is pretty stable unless exposed to very high heat and ultraviolet radiation. Putting it in a dark closet somewhere in an airconditioned house in a bag that keeps out vermin is a good measure. No need to keep it in an airtight environment, it will only promote the growth of mold. Also, dont store it near harsh chemicals like bleach or other cleaning agents, these might corrode the hardware.

There is also no need to pop the reserve, which some people do because they think the spring will weaken over time.

My 10 cents, some gear manufacturer can probably give you better info. And this has been discussed in detail before in this forum, just search...

Don't be afraid of a little cold weather. Keep jumping. (get a repack first) You are a little further north than some of us but in the states a lot of people jump in the winter. The view is usually much better and if you crash in the snow it makes it funny for the rest of us.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting - "fcuk me what a ride!"
