micduran 0 #2 November 22, 2008 You should come to GA. We have a lot of women jumpers here. Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours.

After that, women just wern't drawn to the sport like they used to be. I know, I know. I'm full of shit!

The women leaving the sport due to your stellar good looks and personality were easily offset by those joining relieved at my no longer eying little girls with bad intent. Honestly though, the women I remember from the 70s were, bar none, pretty hard core. There were not as many but those that jumped were fun to be around. Kinda like today's yet inexplicably different. jon
JohnRich 4 #5 November 23, 2008 QuoteAm I imagining it or did there used to be more female jumpers? I think there are a LOT more female jumpers today, than 20 or 30 years ago. Thank gosh for that!
JohnMitchell 16 #6 November 23, 2008 Quote Am I imagining it or did there used to be more female jumpers? I've heard that women were about 8% of the USPA membership in the 70's when I started. From what I saw at Chicks Rock, men are now a minority in our sport.
Andrewwhyte 1 #7 November 23, 2008 The DZ I started at went through a phase where there were a lot of women at the DZ. At one point there were more women than men. I remember saying where I was from to this dude at the convention (1990) and his response was "Oh, I've heard of there. That's the place with all the chicks." The truth is that during that ephemeral period the vast majority of jumps were still being done by men; we had more female members but they did not jump as much. As I look back I can only think of two of those women who still jump.
JerryBaumchen 1,469 #8 November 24, 2008 Hi air, Well, since I started in '64 my thoughts are that with the passing of each decade more & more women were/are jumping. The increasing improvements in the gear might just be what is doing it. jeanie McCombs was not what I would call a 'soft & cuddly' female, JerryBaumchen
