ok...heres mine...happened today.

So..i worked the weekend...on straight time because i had thursday and friday off. One of the jobs i had to do was install foam rubber insulation on a refrigerant system on a yacht(picture attached). Installing rubber on a yacht is typically first class mechanic duties. Im a third class mechanic. Now there is a $5.34 differance per hour between the two pay classes. So i do the job and i do it well. The chief engineer was very happy with the work i did. That was on Saturday. Today...monday..im about to go back to work from my three oclock break and my leadman comes out and starts bitching because i, by his thinking, installed the wrong size piece on a 90 degree bend. What he didnt know is that that bend actually increases in size due to a fitting that the pipe lead into. I did the correct thing..which came from a first class mechanic that checked my work after i was finished. SO i try defending myself telling him exactly what i typed so far about the fitting being there and having to increase the size. I didnt get but a few words out and he just started yelling more. I wasnt able to get in the fact that my work looked better that some of the first class's work that was done on the yacht while it was there. Then he brings up a removal job that i had to do on a Navy frigate. He starts telling me that i removed too much...saying that sections that he thought i removed i took out 20 feet at a time. Now..keep in mind that i handed him a list of the exact spaces and exact areas that was removed...so he knew what i removed. The areas that i did removed, the longest section was 22 inches..a HUGE differance from 20 feet! So now he's yelling at me for something that i didnt even do!

Then he evens go so far as telling me that i dont deserve to be paid 3rd class mechanic pay and that i should have been a helper for longer. WHAT THE FUCK!!! He had nothing to do with my mechanic raise. My forman promoted me without any word from my leadman. After my 90 day period i asked my leadman once a month every month about what i had to do to get my raise. THen..one day my forman walks up to me when i was working on one of the big ass tents we have and just promoted me...just so happened to be the week i was there for 6 months. Well..i went back and asked my leadman if he said anything to my forman about my raise and he didnt say shit. He just blew me off whenever i asked about it. It took every ounce of willpower i had to not just completely blow up on his ass. Worst part about all of this...he pulled this shit right in the middle of the shop with all of the other shop employees. Im sorry but i have always been instructed to praise in public, critisize in private. He could have gone about this is a completely different manner.

Your boss is a shitbag. Clearly, he hates his job and takes it out on others whenever he can. I don't know what you can do but kill him with kindness.

I had a shitbag boss too. Nitpicked me almost into oblivion to where I just didn't want to work anymore. Nobody under his purview liked him at all. When my review came up, it was decided by the department manager that I had to go. Well I wouldn't go without getting things off my chest. She had no idea what had been going on the previous 2 years. Nobody had the guts to say anything. Next day I get 5 emails at home from co-workers asking what happened. I told them all exactly what I told the manager. One week later they told me the shitbag supervisor got demoted, lost his cushy corner office and was assigned a cubicle along with the rest of them, back to being a lowly engineer. It was totally worth it. :)

i was a welders helper and my welder would always tell me to shut the fuck up, and to not say anything. any time something bad happened it was my fault. one time we were on a crew making a gas plant. he started welding two pieces of pipe together and i asked him if it was like that on the blue print. he said "your not a welder, I am so shut up" i went and checked the print it was wrong so i tryed to show him and he took it from me and said "if i don't shut up you will be out of a job" (i had just bought my house and he new it) the boss fliped when he walked by and saw it was not right. my welder said i checked the blue print and told him thats was how it was soposed to be. i was going to kill him, well first i was going to lose my job then he was a dead man....... its a good thing the boss only came by cuz he herd me telling my welder that he was wrong over and over againB|

he got the can and i got a rasie :D

live and let live

You are 100% correct. That's even the way we do it in the military under certain circumstances, for example: I as a sergeant fuck something up and deserve and ass chewing... A good leader will pull me aside from the lower ranking troops to remove any downgrading of my rank. However, if it's just a group of sergeants, I may very well get an earful around everyone else.

Now, for my story...

This one time... at boot camp...:D

Just in case you thought being a musician is easy:

I was playing a gig one night in a trio with a couple of friends at restaurant/bar. The bass player is a guy I've known for almost 10 years, and likes to micromanage every little fucking thing about the gig, up to and including calling random tunes that are totally inappropriate for the venue. He considers himself "the boss" of the band, since he's the one who booked the gig.

We're about to go on for our 3rd set, and I tell him I'm going out to my car to get my Chapstick. He looks pissed and worried, and starts whining about how we'll be late, so I say "OK, it'd only take me 30 seconds, but let's get up there." We still had 4 minutes before we were expected to play.

So we're up there and I'm turned away from him, tuning my guitar, when he says, quite loudly, "Chris, are you gonna pout all night about your fuckin' Chapstick, or are we gonna play some music? I'm trying to get some fuckin' mojo going here, man." He was 8 inches away from his mic, and the audience heard everything he said. I couldn't believe he actually did it - there is nothing more unprofessional you can do onstage than yell at a bandmate.

I smiled at him, stepped away from my mic, and in my best Jack Nicholson sneer, I quietly said, "I'm tuning my guitar - what are you talking about? We're onstage, for God's sake!" The drummer just started playing the intro beat, and we were off. I was dumbstruck.

As far as employers go, you get one shot: You swear at me in anger or yell at me in front of other people ONCE. You do it again, I'm gone. This was his number-two. I gave my notice immediately after the gig, and told him to find somebody else who'll put up with his shit. Felt REALLLLL good!
