pro packing/flat packing EZ 384's

Recommended Posts

the general concensus around here is that an EZ should be flat packed as the chances of a lineover is much higher pro packing them?

any thoughts?

flat packing takes more room/time.

they seem to crack open both ways too. any trick to slow the inflation? we're already rolling the nose into the centre cell.

heavy pressure but good flare. not too bad of a trade off.

I always pro-pack them - as long as you are careful laying the canopy down (when you bring the tail around have a lot of twists to hold everything in place) you will be fine. When you get it ready for the bag push it in from the sides, don't roll it under. The only thing you push under is the top skin not the bulk of the canopy and lines.

You can also put a rubber band on one of the B or C line attachment points and wrap it around the center of the slider, this can soften the opening a little ......... :Sjust a little:o

We have one EZ on the dz (not sure of the size). I always flat pack it. (as does everybody else, as per the DZO's request).

I just do a normal flat-pack, keeping everthing neat, nose straight. The only thing different I do from the sudent-rig flat packs, is that I make sure the slider is nice and open and 'cupped' once I bring it up, so it grabs as much air as soon as possible. But, other than that, just a normal flat pack.

the TM's tell me the openings are usually good, and soft.

Perhaps it's just your particular one that's opening heavy, or ours that opens slow....

Last weekend I visited this years Safety Day of the DFV (German Parachuting Association).
I'm not a TI but I remember some of the tandem cutaway statistics. The DFV highly recommends flat packing EZ's, as they received a significant amount of lineover cutaway reports of EZ canopies that were pro packed.

These reports don't mean that german TI's can't pro pack  so don't even try a joke :D!

The malfunction rates on all of our tandem canopies are MUCH lower if they are flat packed. We've been telling people this fact for years, so I'm quite frankly amazed that anyone still pro-packs large canopies.

You know, Bill, I have said the same thing for years, but nobody seems to listen to me.

what about elliptical canopies like hops, twins etc flat packing those would be a nightmare?

I know you asked ripcord4 but I can answer your question.

Strong Enterpises sells and MC-4 and CPS (Complete Patachute Solutions) sells military systems too.

Just google 'em and your in business.

Plus I think one is for sale in the clasifieds.

My Firebolt 350 tandem main is VERY elliptical on the back side and I routinely flat pack it (I actually do the "roll pack" version) with absolutely no problems whatsoever.
