Cari 0 #1 December 10, 2008 Ok...so, 2 of my smoke alarms won't stop chirping. I replaced the batteries in all 3 units and the 2 are still chirping. The system is only a year and a half old and it's the middle of the night and the manufacturer help line isn't open til morning. I tried resetting them by holding down the button until I got a long beep, much to the dismay of my dog, and I'm going insane. I even tried just taking them down until I could call BRK/First Alert in the morning, but then I just have beeping holes in my ceiling. HELP! I'M GOING INSANE! SkydiveJack 1 #2 December 10, 2008 I have 3 hard wired smoke alarms in my home as well. As I’m sure you know, the batteries are a backup for a household electrical failure. In fact, I just had to change my batteries because one of mine started chirping. Normally that is an indication of a low battery. I changed all three batteries and the chirping went away. I don’t understand why, as you say, 2 of them are still chirping. If you changed all 3 batteries then possibly one or more of the batteries are bad. But that seems strange. If you are sure the batteries are good, then I really have no new advice except to repeat your own advice, that you need to call BRK/ First Alert in the morning. If you disconnect the alarms from the hard wire, then take the batteries out, this should also stop the chirping until you find out what the problem is. But this also will mean you have no smoke detection until you hook them back up!
tumbler 0 #3 December 10, 2008 some kind of fault has occured. If you can find the breaker that controls the juice to them you can throw it and pull the batteries. Of course a large hammer on the speaker is an option as well!!
futuredivot 0 #4 December 10, 2008 Don't wait until it starts chirping. It's a good idea to change the batteries when you change your clocks in spring and fall. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=357255;search_string=smoke%20detector;#357255You are only as strong as the prey you devour

shermanator 4 #6 December 10, 2008 If it has batteries, try changing them. The one in my apartment has no battery backup. I HATE that idea *been planning on buying a new one that is battery operated.*CLICK HERE! new blog posted 9/21/08 CSA #
councilman24 37 #7 December 10, 2008 Check and make sure the line power is still on. They may chirp when the hardwired power goes out. See if the breaker has fired off.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
Shepp 0 #8 December 10, 2008 QuoteCheck and make sure the line power is still on. They may chirp when the hardwired power goes out. See if the breaker has fired off. Mine do exactly that. To silence a pesky one in my kitchen (it is extremely over-sensitive) I had to remove the battery AND unplug it from the hardline.Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. Cari 0 #9 December 10, 2008 Quote I'm betting you found the batteries in the bottom of your junk drawer in the kitchen. hehe...usually that would be the case. These were brand new, straight out of the package! They're 9 volts and I went back and checked em all with the "tongue test" and they all seem good. Anyway, I called BRK/First Alert and they said to remove all of the batteries, disconnect the wiring harness from each unit, then put the batteries back in and reconnect each one, making sure to reset them by holding the button down on each one and that should do the trick. I'll let y'all know.
Muenkel 0 #10 December 11, 2008 Use a vacuum hose and clean the dust particles out of them. This has solved the problem for me. _________________________________________ Chris
