Anyway, as I'm driving my Mom to the hospital the next day for her surgery I noticed there wasn't anyone on the roads. I came to find out all schools were closed (both rural and metro areas) and most of the city was shut down. I couldn't help but laugh. A number of years ago I was living in New England, and they were showing "funny footage" of Houston with an ice storm, sliding all over the place. Many drivers here really don't know how to deal with it, and remember that we don't have sand trucks ready. A couple of freeway overpasses are closed; other than that, I don't know of anything that isn't running normally. It's beautiful out right now, with the temperature expected to go up into the 50's. I report traffic on a major FM station here and it was an absoulute mess. It really caught everyone off guard, as it started as rain/sleet/snow overnight. People had no idea how bad the ice was on the roads and hit the streets running like they do every morning. SURPRISE! We had probably 50 accidents within an hour on just the east side!! It's now 8:30am and most of the east side is still in lockdown. But hey, it keeps me in a job! It snowed last week and while it was only about 1-2" my fiance was a complete wreck about driving....It was only like the 2nd time she had ever even seen snow on the ground, and the thought of driving in it was too much to handle...anyways I ended up driving her to school and waiting for her and driving home... I did stop in a nice big parking lot on the way home for about 30 minutes of donuts and showing her how to regain control in a spinning car... she did well too... after about 15 minutes I had her drifting in figure 8's around light poles :)_________________________________________ this space for rent. Even though it snowed last night, Santa hasn't changed his schedule ... but the Space Shuttle Endeavour will fly by Johnson Space Center today, circling over JSC between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. while mounted on a modified Boeing 747 shuttle carrier aircraft. Traffic was a mess. It was quite a bit as well. I remember seeing my horse out in this snow covered pasture. Wish I had a camera then. Happy Holidays to all!
