floridadiver81 0 #26 December 23, 2008 QuoteI know exactly what I said. I respect the collective group of citizens who choose to serve in the armed forces. However, that doesn't change the fact that of the jumpers that came out of Annapolis, several deserve the words I used and more. Putting on a uniform doesn't make you immune to criticism, particularly when you are still in an academic setting and have yet to serve. We had some real pieces of shit coming out of Annapolis and jumping on the taxpayer's dime. Now here's a man that knows how to make friends.GO NAVY! riddler 0 #28 December 23, 2008 Just so my intentions are clear - I'm not against the Navy, or people skydiving in the Navy. I think it's great - more people should jump. I'm just wondering how prevalent it is. In other words, how many Navy people have done any skydiving? 10%? 50%? Anyone have an estimate?Trapped on the surface of a sphere. As far as my knowledge of the navy is...Its about as prevalent as Navy SEALs since they're the ones that do it. I suspect you could find corpsmen, EODs, and maybe even a seabee or two who would beg to differ. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" halorob 0 #31 December 23, 2008 Seals do make up the majority in people qualified to skydive in the navy. Its part of their job description. PR's otherwise know as parachute riggers are the ones who maintain their equipment and provide training for them so they also get qualified if supporting a unit that skydives. EOD has teams that support the Seals so the need for them to be qualified is maintained. I haven't really heard of anyone other then Seals, EOD, and PR's skydiving. Basic staticline with round chutes might be a different story.

prodiver913 0 #33 December 24, 2008 the Navy has about 300,000 people in it so who knows but in my squadron of 500 there were 5 of us so thats not too bad. I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death. halorob 0 #34 December 24, 2008 Ft. Benning is static line. Which for the military is a round chute you can't even control from 1250' . Don't think I'd classify as skydiving. I've been there for the record, it sucks nuts.
