mamajumps 0 #1 December 29, 2008 So why in the fuck can I not ask a skydiving related question anywhere in these forums without pompas ass people jumping down my throat, judging me (or attempting too)... FUCK! I have struggled so hard to stay in this sport that I love so much. Im sure my questions seem stupid to most, but fuck me for putting my kids and their lives and needs first and not being able to spend every waking moment at a dz. I want to learn, I want to stay connected at to this sport, but I have priorities, and unfortunately skydiving isnt at the top of my list right now (as much as I want it to be). Ok rant over... flame away....
LaRusic 0 #2 December 29, 2008 meh i agree, thats why i dont ask questions here I've read a lot of the questions where people say "if you use the search function you will find your answer" then just for shits and giggles i try to find the answer....and end up sifting through a ton of threads with the same response....use the search button. very helpfulthis is why i stick to the bonfire and only make occasional comments to the actual skydiving board if i wanna know something i ask my instructors, i trust them, i dont trust people online The Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver #
labrys 0 #3 December 29, 2008 Hey... listen. Yes, this is a "skydiving" website. If you ask questions in the "skydiving" forums and get answers that piss you off, then maybe you should look at your questions and the answers you get more seriously. Here in the bonfire, you'll probably get warmer, fuzzier answers. Good luck with that. Owned by Remi #?

The pompas ass answers didn't help me at all, and just like the first person to respond to this thread said it takes hours to shift thru the endless threads, and then you may or may not have your answer, usually you just end up wasting a lot of time reading threads that have been hijacked in one way or another by pompas ass people who think they know everything and have no interest in helping people. In reality, in the time it took for the stupid bullshit reply to be made, something constructive that may actually help the person asking could have been typed..... I cant make it to the dz hardly at all right now, however thinking about jumping consumes a lot of my day. I am setting goals and saving money towards being an active jumper again and when I have a question, I really don't have a big group of people to consult other than here. Sure I have some good friends that I can ask, but not everyone knows everything and sometimes its good to get a wide variety of opinions from several people. However that is nearly impossible to do here....

Consider the point others have made, okay. You're asking anonymous strangers about gear that might or might not save your life. And then you're whining when you get a little tough advice. The answer is there for you to find all.by.your.self. If you want to skydive as much as you say, and if it's the passion that you claim then for gods sake figure out what gear you need by doing your own research or talking to real people. You have close to 80 jumps, right? Do you have a license? Someone trained you I hope? Believe it or not, there are people out there who actually want to help without blowing a rainbow up your ass.Owned by Remi #?
wildcard451 0 #8 December 29, 2008 Quote.....but not everyone knows everything and sometimes its good to get a wide variety of opinions from several people. I've saved us all some time and cut out the only part of your rant that matters. You are getting a "wide variety" of opinions from many jumpers. Just because you may not like the answers you are hearing doesn't mean they are wrong or "pompous". You want a wide variety of opinions, by god you are going to get them here. You want fluffy opinions that will always make you feel good? Go to www.basejumper.com and they will cuddle with you all day. My opinion? You need a thicker skin. Hope that adds something to your variety.
VectorBoy 0 #9 December 29, 2008 Maybe because unlike auto-mechanics, bicycle repair, home improvement, electronics design, you just can't learn skydiving over the internet. You really need a personal and close -in coach, instructor, mentor of quality not a stranger from the world wide vague. The world wide vague is great for the entertainment. BTW I'm not busting your chops, I just want you get the close -in and quality part.

However that is nearly impossible to do here.... I've also spent a bunch of time searching threads that don't have any answers, it's great way to kill time if that's what you're after. One thing I've never heard anybody bring up is that some of the people you don't want to take advice from on here, are probably at an actual dz, and will tell you the same thing there that they would here, whether it's right or wrong. One of my early instructors was just horrible, if he didn't know something he would make it up as he went. I didn't know that at the time though. He taught me that if you want to turn at 50 feet you just use your rear risers, because you don't lose as much altitude. We've seen him on a coach jump spinning out of control by himself 200 feet above a student, when he landed he was somehow able to tell the student a dozen things he did wrong. We knew he never even saw the student on the jump. This is the same guy that packed my first two cutaways, and 3 other lineovers, one of which was after he got his riggers ticket. Just because you meet them in person doesn't mean they're good, just like a lot of posts on here doesn't mean they're good either."If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. I have already decided that when the day comes that I am an instructor, that no matter how many times I have been asked a question, I will always strive to help those new jumpers and remember how I was treated by the few when all I wanted to do was learn.... ladydyver 0 #16 December 29, 2008 the other thing to think about misty is to talk to the people who you know and have a lot of respect for. when i have a question i pm certain people and don't open it up to the general public to bombard. You can get some really great advice from here and then some not so helpful guidance. There are a lot of people on the site who are so helpful and knowledgable that I am in total awe...... other times......Unless they know you, know your situation, and your abilities, I don't know that they will be able to help you with specifics....maybe some generalized stuff only. see ya in a couple of days DPH # 2 "I am not sure what you are suppose to do with that, but I don't think it is suppose to flop around like that." ~Skootz~ I have a strong regard for the rules.......doc! hookitt 1 #17 December 29, 2008 It's like that in any forum. I didn't see your question but may go search for it after reading this gem Remember, skydivers, especially internet skydivers, tend to think they're rather cool but in reality, only the cool ones are. You're right though, if someone asks a question, you'll likely get hammered for no good reason unless the first couple replies are from someone helpful. Good luck! Baksteen 84 #21 December 29, 2008 I'm replying to the OP, but the following is applicable to several people. OK guys.. everyone take a deep breath. ... There. ... Now kiss and make up. Mamajumps, I have a lot of respect for the way you are able to put your kids in front of everything else. It's the way it should be. However, as others have said, an AAD is part of that, especially if you cannot afford the time to stay current. Perhaps you could just put a few dollars aside each month, so the total service costs won't hurt your wallet so much. Please try to resist the temptation to use strong language and generalised insults when venting - it probably will be counter productive. By the way, since others have said that the costs are significantly lower I'd be interested to know where you got that figure. So stay with it, don't let the grey crowd of anonymus people spoil the fun you have in the sport. Just keep asking questions and filter out the good stuff and ignore the trolls. Stupid questions don't exist, but stupid answers do - and "That's a stupid question" is a shining example of the latter. Just in case: Labrys, none of the above is directed at you. I'm sure you're an excellent coach. It's true about the search function though - a lot of the results are drivel or obsolete. Perhaps you could include a direct link to a good thread if you remember one that answers a given question perfectly. However, I sometimes have my doubts about the tone/delivery of your posts (and sometimes is the operative word there). Perhaps you should count to ten before replying to someone? But it should be noted the advice you give in itself is sound and usually supported by good arguments. edit: it's monday.. I can't type before I finish my coffee "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Scoop 0 #25 December 29, 2008 Quote Because the people who take the time to write "Search ..... Search..... search" but wont take the time to answer a polite question, like the sound of their own voices too much. Stuff them. Yup! It's especially funny when the topic is so specific like a particular canopy vs another canopy so you wouldn't think to search and someone pipes up saying didn't you know someone posted that topic back in 2003!!! Like you're the idiot Imagine how rude it would be if you asked in general conversation (In the real wordl!!) how to do something and some 3rd party who needn't have commented chips in the discussion with "just look it up" or "god, we've had this discussion before". Also when people start saying "this sport is dangerous and you're buying life saving equipment. Why discuss it on the internet blah blah" what they are really doing is just ego-stroking by reminding themselves how cool they are. People, the beauty of forums such as this is to allow discussion. If you don't want to discuss then simply STFU. The old saying "if you haven't got anything good to say don't say nothing" should apply here.
