The world would be a better place without lawyers and reporters

Without lawyers and reporters, how the hell would we ever learn what our elected crim...errr...politicians were doing?

I'm not sure there's anything else I can do here

A suggestion...

If you go down to the bottom of KTLA's website, there is a "Terms of Service" hyperlink.
A little more than halfway down is the phone number and email address of their Copyright Agent.

While meandering; one might look at the second paragraph at the top of the page regarding their "Copyright" Clause to compare/consider it to the existing DZ, Base, Rock, etc. .com's "Terms of Use."
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

I'm impressed as well.

The relevant portion of DZ.com's terms...

You want to know how used the picture?

Ask U2boy14. He posted in the Blueskies thread asking for people to interview about the incident. He is a reported for the OC Register

I'm not sure that's correct. Is KTLA.com affiliated with the OC Register?

Thanks. I'll try to contact them once they hit office hours.

wait... does that mean if I post a picture on dz.com then the photo becomes the property of dz.com and can be distributed by dz.com?

Hello Brendan,

As per our conversation, here's the article containing the photo in question.

http://www.ktla.com/landing_news/?Orange-County-Woman-Killed-in-Skydiving-=1&blockID=172465&feedID=171

Recent events leave me to wonder whether or not KTLA has permission to use the photo at all. If they do, then at minimum it is credited incorrectly to Dropzone.com. I appreciate your attention to this. There are a lot of people -- mostly friends of the deceased -- wondering why that photo is there and why it's credited to Dropzone.

Thank you,

And that is fine with me... If I post an image on Dropzone.com then it is perfectly fine with me for dz.com to display the image anywhere else on the site... it would be a problem if they allowed it to be displayed elsewhere (without my permission)

but that doesn't sound like the case... and that's a good thing!!! :)

Not sure if they are, but the guy I sent you was on here asking for info and was in the same thread that the pic came from.

No. The OC Register is owned by Freedom Communications. KTLA is owned by the same company that owns the LA Times, Tribune.

Yeah, seems like it's a different outlet entirely. The OC Register, however, currently has two of its own stories up, each with a separate picture that also exists on DZ. One of them is also credited to DZ. I just spoke with the reporter who was on here yesterday. He does not know if the photo editor got express permission from Karen to use those shots, but he promised he would check as soon as he gets into the office. I requested at minimum for the one shot to be credited correctly and for them both to be removed IF they do not have permission. The second photo is credited correctly to Karen, so it's quite possible the OC Register does have permission.

The KTLA photo has been removed from KTLA.com.

Now, respectfully, unless there's yet another photo out there credited to Dropzone, I think this is probably between Karen and the OC Register. Karen, if you need me to intervene on your behalf with them or any other news outlet, just say the word. Best to PM me.
