happythoughts 0 #51 December 30, 2008 Quote Quote I can feel a DZ.com revolution coming. People are fed up with the dickheads Kinda like the mid-1700s, eh? By dickheads, I assume everyone means people who don't understand that being called a "100-jump wonder" is not praise? 100 jumps is 100 landings. It seems like I've got stupider because I knew everything when I had 100 jumps. Now, I tend to sit and listen to more experienced jumpers and learn stuff. A good rule of thumb - If 10 experienced jumpers are trying to convince someone to exercise caution, maybe they should STFU. People who have time-in-sport have watch an incredible number of injuries happen. They aren't just talking out of their ass to irritate some newbie. They are trying to keep them out of the hospital. Of course, the general responses are: "But dude, I have Mad Skillz, you don't know me" or the ever-popular... "People who push the envelope are making the sport progress" I don't care how much tunnel time someone has. It doesn't teach you to fly a canopy. It doesn't teach you to be safe in the sky with others. People who let their mouth overload their ass, end up as a member of the heavy metal club. gearless_chris 1 #52 December 30, 2008 I don't have 420 jumps either, but you seem to be okay with me having a D license without enough jumps. They changed the requirements to 500 just after I started. If you can figure out I'm goofing around don't you think others can too? Did you ever get your canoe fixed? If not here's a great fiberglassing website to help you out http://fiberglassforums.com/index.php They're not just automotive, they have a big general item fabrication section with how to's."If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. JohnRich 4 #54 December 30, 2008 QuoteI don't have 420 jumps either, but you seem to be okay with me having a D license without enough jumps. They changed the requirements to 500 just after I started. If you can figure out I'm goofing around don't you think others can too? So you're still lying, and you admit it. What do you think that does for your credibility? A D-license number issued in 2007, with 420 jumps, is enough information to give the benefit of the doubt that the D-license could have been acquired prior to the change-over in requirements from 300 to 500 jumps. Some people may not take the time to look at your full profile, nor have the experience to realize that the bits of information don't add up properly. So why are you so reticent to reveal how many jumps you really have? If you're jump numbers are low, that's nothing to be ashamed of. If you aspire to have more, that's a good thing. But in the meantime, lying about your true experience does nothing but make you look bad.

gearless_chris 1 #56 December 30, 2008 I did a horrible job of logging my jumps before I got my Neptune. I think that was jump number 133 but I don't remember for sure, so I only added the ones I had logged in my book to my Neptune numbers, it's probably 850ish but I can't prove that. We used to do a bunch of jumps into backyards for fun and they didn't all get logged. I can't post my real numbers because I don't know for sure, so why not have fun with it . If you don't think a 100 jumps make a difference check out Tuna's thread about his first time jumping a camera with 97 jumps, add another 100 and he wouldn't have been thrashed near as bad. It's been fun giving you a hard time, but according to the contract we're supposed to "act" professionally, I'll just start earlier than necessary. 243-1 was at Rantoul '05. I guess you haven't been in the sport long enough to watch a lot of people get injured and killed. Yeah, that'll get you "uptight". And then it's no longer "funny" to misrepresent your experience and give out bad or marginal advice. Anyone who thinks that's funny - they are the ones in they wrong sport. I suggest bowling, where bad advice will only get you a low score, and not a funeral.
dgskydive 0 #60 December 31, 2008 QuoteI'm glad that you've changed your profile to 420 jumps, Here John. This is what he means by 420 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_(cannabis_culture)Dom
dgskydive 0 #61 December 31, 2008 A lot of people have been on this site for a long time and over the years there have been many that have started a lot of shit and they didnt have profiles filled out or had really crazy ones People see that and start thinking... uh oh, here it comes again. One poster suggested that HH should have changed the slogan to "The single best source for BS" Well by filling out profiles that are not accurate. Isnt that leading into the BS aspect of things? Fill out the information correctly and then people wont think you or anyone else is full of BS Not saying that you are at all. Just looking at the other side of the coin.Dom
virgin-burner 1 #62 December 31, 2008 that was me. but with my decision to keep to bonfiire, that is not needed anymore..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda
dgskydive 0 #63 December 31, 2008 Quotethat was me. but with my decision to keep to bonfiire, that is not needed anymore.. Thats fine, just wanted to point out that if people want to be taken seriously, then treat the site seriously is all. If folks are here to just be in bonfire and talk shit all day that is fine. You dont see people getting beat up in Bonfire for a wacky profile, only when they step into the other forums do they run into trouble. Another thing that isnt thought about much, is that the media frequently comes to this website to get information for stories. Some people take this sport very seriously and in fact it is there life. So when someone acts like a fool in the serious forums it hurts them and they sport that is their life. It hard enough to get the media to get the stories right with out having some jackass make improper comments and giving out the complete wrong information that the media can run with.Dom
