What is a good first rig

Recommended Posts

Since new is out ofthe financial question, go get used.
You can get all your desired makes and models for less money as used equipment.

Get what you want now, only just not brand new....
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

There's plenty of great used gear out there. I got a magnificent used rig, a Javelin with a Spectre, PD Reserve and a Cypres for just $3 grand. None of it was older than 3 years and the previous owner had taken really loving care of it. It was even for an unusual harness size, since the previous owner and I are both big tall guys.

Of course you should always get a rigger's inspection of any gear before buying it - and you should negotiate that inspection into the sales agreement.

You can PM me or any other Gear Dealer to start your search for used gear. Often time when a customer buys all new gear, I'll list or sell their current container system for them.

Rigs in the size of 190 and 170 mains rarely even make it to my web site, as they sell right away. These are the most popular sizes in my experience.

Find out what size canopies you will need. Then take some measurements to find out what size harness you will need. That will help you determine the fit of a rig sight unseen.
