chiquita24 0 #1 January 8, 2009 Ok, so I've been searching for a 2nd job for the past few weeks now and now I'm getting all kinds of leads! [:) Here's the thing, there's 2 jobs that I'm really considering and I have an interview with on Tues-working with people with disabilities. The pay is so-so but better than I'm making now. The other thing is the hospital is hiring-but on a "hiring hold" right now, for a psych. tech (I have a BA in psych). This is the job I really want. And my sister works there on a different unit, so I kinda have a bit of an advantage. Good pay, good benefits, will help me go back to school etc. Do I take the job I have an interview at- I'm 90% positive I'm going to get the job and wait to see if/when the hospital calls and then potentially quit the job I was just hired at?? That doesn't look so great. What would you do?

tigra 0 #7 January 9, 2009 I don't think I would turn down a legit offer for something that may or may not happen in the near future- not without a better reason. You really don't know how long the hiring freeze will last, or what the competition for the other job might be. And, if it turns out that you take the first job and and end up with an offer from the hospital in a few weeks or months, I would just explain that this is an opportunity you can't pass up- better pay, better benefits and in a field that you have a degree in. They might not be happy, but that doesn't mean you don't have a right to keep looking and exploring your options.

I just hate starting a job knowing that I may not be there for that long because if this job from the hospital comes through, I'm taking it!
