FreeflyChile 0 #1 January 19, 2009 Hey all, Anyone have any experience with bringing a car into the US from another country? Specifically, I've always wanted to own a classic car and I'm pondering importing a Citroen 2CV from Chile because they are all over the place down there and you can find one in good shape for about $1000. I've always wanted to own one (family/nostalgia related reasons, plus I think it's a classic) and I am kicking around the idea of trying to bring one to the States and gradually fix it into good shape (well, pay someone to fix it as I know nothing about cars - I just want one that's in mint condition to have as my classic car sort of thing). Thanks

JerryBaumchen 1,468 #4 January 20, 2009 Hi Freefly, I would suggest that you be very careful. There a number of companies that say they can federalize a car for you. But at the end of the day, you are the one responsible. I used to own a BMW and was quite into the car scene with it. A number of the guys were trying to import Euro models & some succeeded. I would suggest that you go to: www.roadfly.com Then go to the BMW forums, then go to the 8 series ( the version that I owned ) and ask around. You should get some very good advice on the subject. Now if that does not work, send me an email at home & I'll put you onto a guy who really knows a lot about it. I won't put you onto him until you have tried the Roadfly thing first as he does not like to be bothered too much. But be very careful, JerryBaumchen
