goofyjumper 0 #20 January 22, 2009 I certainly do not miss earthquakes! I have been in a lot of them. Even that big one that hit Northridge in 1994. Amazon 7 #23 January 22, 2009 Nope I was not there for the Northridge EQ... I was there for a 6.1 in April of 1992 when I was working in Santa Monica on a contract. Biggest one so far up here was Nisqually in 2001 at 6.8.. I thought my aprtment building was sliding down the big hill it was perched on. My biggest one , a 7.5 was in early 1976 at La Aurora in Guatemala . It hit in the middle of the night.. the barracks collapsed around us... thousands died... I think a couple hudred died there where we were.... it REALLLLLY sucked. It took us a couple days to get the hell out of there. Since then I have issues about EQ
LisaH 0 #24 January 22, 2009 Yikes. That must have been scary!! Edited to add: The first major quake I experienced was the 6.6 in 1971. My bed was moving across the room and I thought it was cool. I was only 10 and at the time and didn't realize how devistating they could be.Be yourself! MooOOooOoo
Amazon 7 #25 January 22, 2009 The thing tht surprised me the most is it just kept rolling and the noise... it felt like it lasted a minute.. and there were aftershocks almost every hour for the rest of the day.... at least they got smaller as time went on.. Luckily it was the dry season... we esentially camped out till they could fix the runway and get planes in and out.. we hopped a C-130 out that had brought in relief supplies.
