Mike111 0 #1 October 10, 2005 Hey, soon will have finished AFF, and am dead keen on getting a silhouette once qualified as a licences Skydiver. At the moment, Im using Navigator 240 for the student jumps and love it, but in the future ( I don't have a ego at all), would like to be able to develope my canopy landing skills so high performance landings should be optional within a few years or more. I read that the silhouette is regarded as a good beginner canopy, which allows one to turn yet still quite forgiving. Is this a good starting off choice for a first canopy? I will also definately run this through with the JM's aswell. (P.S. thanks for the help witht he altimeter, ive bought a FX 50 (think thats the rigfht name for after AFF!Cheers, Mike
phoenixlpr 0 #2 October 10, 2005 What is wrong with Navigator? It's an excellent canopy. Safe, reliable and easy to pack. It's fun to fly around WL 1.0.
billvon 3,110 #3 October 10, 2005 An appropriately sized Silhouette would be an excellent first canopy. It's easy to pack, opens reliably, and is fun to fly. We have two - a Silhouette 170 and a 150. I often use the 170 for wingsuit jumps, since it is very forgiving of bad body position.

It flew pretty similar to the navigator.
Mike111 0 #5 October 10, 2005 It was just slow when turning, and was a bit slow. Im not sure if it would allow me to develope my skills that much - its veyr forgiving so might let me off my mistakes and so i may not realise them. Although i did read it was very godo at letting students master the basics

There's a good reason for that.... You probably liked it a little better because of the size. 10 square feet makes noticeble difference in performance. It's a great canopy. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

mr2mk1g 10 #13 October 11, 2005 I hear tell the Silhouette is actually a Navigator in smaller sizes. Check out the PD website (if you have the right flash plug in of course otherwise I guess they no longer want your custom nor wish to support you ) and you will see both canopies have many of the same features including plan form. Not that this is proof that they are indeed the same, but I've certainly never found anything to refute what I've been told. I guess what I'm getting at is that either way, if you like one you'll probably like the other.

Hey Mike - I'm hoping that the Navigator allowed you to turn too! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
