First Rig

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

Just got my A license and now looking for a first rig, desperately :), and getting loads of conflicting advice !! I have been jumping a 200 (I am 150 lbs) up to now with pretty good stand up landings, I have been reccomended to go for a PD spectre 170, and a vector micron container, or a mirage G4, neither options I think I can propably afford!! I was wonderind what is recommended as good first rig, as I probably want to buy used for now and then when I downsize in a couple of hundred jumps time buy new.

Any advice really appreciated,

Thanks
JAy

When I first started I also did not have the money for a javelin or a vector, so I went with a Wings container which is one of the cheapest containers you can find out there and one of the best.
Or if you want to buy a used rig, do your homework on the classifieds for a couple of weeks before you pick one, this way you can compare to other rigs.

Buying used gear? Don't get hung up on a brand name. That will limit your choices. Look for a rig that is modern. Has the right size container for your desired canopies. Has the right length main lift web. Has the right width side laterals.

There are so many great containers to choose from. So there is no need to limit your search. Better to have a rig that fits well and is modern than to have a specific brand and compromise either of those.

With the limited information your provided, I would suggest a container that will fit both a 190 main and a 170 main. Start with the 190 until you are absolutely kicking ass on it, then sell it or trade it for a 170. With good quality used gear, that trade out should only cost about $50 - $100.... if that. often times it's straight across.

PM me if you have more detailed questions.
