SarahC07 0 #1 January 31, 2009 Does skydiving help you maintain your sanity (relatively speaking, I AM aware of my audience )? Please discuss.
SARLDO 0 #2 January 31, 2009 Absolutely yes. After a long week at work and dealing with the other stresses of life, heading to the DZ and leaving all other worries behind is very relaxing to me. Hard to explain how a sport so full of excitement can be relaxing but that's just what it is."Always do right. kbordson 8 #3 January 31, 2009 yes. Although I haven't jumped in a year... so what does that say about my sanity? I find it odd that so many people consider skydiving to be associated with a "death wish" when in my reality it helps to tie me more to this life. It awakens and enlivens me. It makes me smile. That one minute of FOCUSED freefall when I don't think about anything but that minute.... it resets the chaos in my mind.
LouDiamond 1 #4 January 31, 2009 Yes and NO. A NO Example: This morning, as in 0300 am, I did a HAHO jump at work from 25,000. AGL. Temp at exit altitude was -41 plus what ever the wind chill was. The Chem lights on my altimeter and on my waist band froze and basically stopped giving off light. I couldn't see the boat compass on my waist band to tell which way I was going for awhile and then my fingers, despite having expedition grade gloves on, felt like they were going to fall off. One of the guys on the jump with me did get frost bite on his face when he exposed some skin while under canopy. INSANE I tell you, thats what I thought I was. The rest of the time, yeah it's kind of fun. Andy9o8 2 #5 January 31, 2009 I'm presuming that wasn't a recreational jump, but a "work jump". I took the OP's inquiry to apply principally to recreational jumps. For me: Yes. When it seems like the world sucks ass, like with a recent death in my family, jumping has most definitely kept me sane.
