SpeedRacer 1 #1 February 13, 2009 Basically, your actual zodiac sign is probably off by one sign. Due to astronomical movements that have occurred since the Zodiac calendar was invented 2 & 1/2 millenia ago, everything is off by about a month. And there is an additional constellation in the cycle, Ophiuchus! Here's how things stand now: Capricorn - Jan 20 to Feb 16 Aquarius - Feb 16 to Mar 11 Pisces - Mar 11 to Apr 18 Aries - Apr 18 to May 13 Taurus - May 13 to Jun 21 Gemini - Jun 21 to Jul 20 Cancer - Jul 20 to Aug 10 Leo - Aug 10 to Sep 16 Virgo - Sep 16 to Oct 30 Libra - Oct 30 to Nov 23 Scorpius - Nov 23 to Nov 29 Ophiuchus - Nov 29 to Dec 17 Sagittarius - Dec 17 to Jan 20 Story here: http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/your-astronomical-sign.html Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

SpeedRacer 1 #3 February 13, 2009 not saying that at all. I think that using the zodiac signs to predict the future or identify personality types is BS, but the hard science bit of it still stands : the zodiac signs have just changed due to movements. From the article: QuoteThe ecliptic, or the position of the Sun as it’s perceived from the revolving Earth, passes through the constellations that formed the Zodiac - Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Zodiac signs were originally determined by which constellation the Sun was "in" on the day you were born. Early astronomers observed the Sun traveling through the signs of the Zodiac in the course of one year, spending about a month in each. Thus, they calculated that each constellation extends 30 degrees across the ecliptic. However, a phenomenon called precession has altered the position of the constellations we see today. riddler 0 #6 February 13, 2009 QuoteZOMG! Are you saying that the hard science behind astrology (try repeating that without laughing!) is wrong?!? So I'm NOT a Libra? But, the description fits me perfectly: QuoteLibrans too are among the most civilized of the twelve zodiacal characters and are often good looking. They have elegance, charm and good taste, are naturally kind, very gentle, and lovers of beauty, harmony (both in music and social living) and the pleasures that these bring. See? A perfect description of me. Let's see, if my sign is off by one, then I'm either a Virgo or a Scorpio. QuoteVirgo: They are intellectually enquiring, methodical and logical, studious and teachable. They combine mental ingenuity with the ability to produce a clear analysis of the most complicated problems. They have an excellent eye for detail but they may be so meticulous that they neglect larger issues. Also, although they are realists, they may slow down projects by being too exact. They are practical with their hands, good technicians and have genuine inventive talents, Wow! That describes me even better than a Libra. What about Scorpio? QuoteThere's no fluff or chatter for Scorpios, either: these folks will zero in on the essential questions, gleaning the secrets that lie within. Scorpios concern themselves with beginnings and endings, and are unafraid of either; they also travel in a world which is black and white and has little use for gray. The curiosity of Scorpios is immeasurable, which may be why they are such adept investigators. These folks love to probe and know how to get to the bottom of things. The fact that they have a keen sense of intuition certainly helps. Hey, that sounds like me, too! Wow, why do all these sun signs sound like me? Could it be because I really like flattery??Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
