chiquita24 0 #1 February 3, 2009 So I have everything ready for my taxes except one w2 that I'm missing. I worked at a family owned restaurant when I was living in IL (I'm in MN now) and made decent money and claimed my tips. Now the restaurant has apparently closed and the number disconnected. So I tried calling that actual owner a few times and left a msg, but got nothing. So how do I track down this w2 information?? Do I need to go through the state of IL, or contact the IRS? skymama 37 #2 February 3, 2009 The IRS might not have that information yet. Employers aren't required to file the W-3 with the attached W-2's until March 2nd. By law you should have gotten your W-2 by Jan. 31st though. Did you forward your new address to them? That could have slowed it down if you didn't.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
chiquita24 0 #3 February 3, 2009 My correct address was written on the form that I had to fill out when hired.
NWFlyer 2 #4 February 3, 2009 Just found this, which indicates that employers who are no longer in business are not required to file: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_is_the_employer_W2_deadline"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
tigra 0 #5 February 3, 2009 They closed??? Mi Pueblo??? Say it aint so! I loved that place! Where else can I get chilaquiles in Ottawa, Illinois???
skymama 37 #6 February 3, 2009 The W-2 is a federal form, not a state form, so I'm not sure contacting the state will do you any good. Although, you might be able to find other contact info for the owner through the state's Division of Corporations website. I know I can do that here in FL, but I'm not sure how good the system is in IL. Even though it was a family owned business, they were probably registered as some sort of entity. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
chiquita24 0 #7 February 3, 2009 YES they closed! I can't believe it! They had the best tacos al pastor that I've found besides in Mexico! You aren't going to find chilaquiles in Ottawa! I think there's a good restaurant in Joliet though!
tigra 0 #8 February 3, 2009 I can get plenty of good authentic Mexican food by my house, but I was surprised to see a place like that in Ottawa. I'm sorry they didn't make it. Besides- stuff like chilaquiles and al pastor vary from restaurant to restaurant. Its hard to find a place that makes them the way you like them! And I agree, their al pastor was also pretty darn good! Now, how do I tell "El Viejo" our favorite summer restaurant closed?? He won't be happy! chiquita24 0 #9 February 3, 2009 Thanks for that link. I might try to call one of those numbers and see what they say... This is frustrating! I claimed a lot of money and was hoping to get it back!
chiquita24 0 #10 February 17, 2009 Thought I'd post this here in case someone else needed to get a hold of the IRS Here's a number that I called 1-800-829-1040 I just spend about 45 min. on the phone with them, but I still didn't get very far. They told me I could use what pay stubs I have, estimate, and fill out this form 4852 and file and then call back in June or July, to get a different form and then re-file. I'm like fuck that. Back to trying to track down the form on my own!If I don't get this form soon, I might take a risk and file my return w/o it. Would that be a terrible decision??
