Nightingale 0 #51 February 18, 2009 QuoteQuoteSorry about your dog. =( (((((((((Hugs!))))))))) Thanks. Quote As for the cats... Buy some "Nature's Miracle" cleaner at Petsmart. That'll get rid of the smell, but it takes days/weeks for the enzymes in the cleaner to totally work. Actually purchased Petsmart's "Pet Organics No Mark!" months ago. These cats ignore it. :^( Nature's Miracle isn't a marking deterrent, it's an enzyme cleaner that breaks down the urine to get rid of the smell. It won't stop them from peeing, but it will get rid of the stink. Works on carpet too. The vet recommended it when my cat had a UTI and was peeing EVERYWHERE! After the UTI resolved, he kept going back to the same spot because it smelled like pee. I had to pull up the carpet and soak the carpet pad in Nature's Miracle, and keep the cat out of there for a few days. Three days later, I let the cat back in the area, and he didn't pee there anymore.
flyangel2 2 #52 February 18, 2009 Quote Oh, and she gives vaccinations on her own. You can do that from the local feed store. By law she can't give them the Rabies Vaccination. That means you have all those cats with a chance of having rabies. Call the city and tell them you got biten by one of the cats but don't know which one it was. They'll have to ask the owner for prove that they have the rabies vaccination, when she can't show it, they take them all May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. tigra 0 #54 February 18, 2009 She sounds like a "collector" and while she might think she is being kind to these cats, ultimately, she's not. I would keep calling animal control and/or the local ASPCA until they come out and see the situation for themselves. I'm sure she is violating some laws. Feral cats are a potential health hazard. They are also potentially dangerous to any other pets in the neighborhood. Not to mention, the lives these cats are living has to be pretty harsh too. doug925 0 #55 February 18, 2009 Sorry to hear of your kitty troubles. We have the same nice lady behind us that feeds the feral cats. They come in droves. Then, they mate under our house (cat brothel) and will spend the rest of their miserable lives fighting in the middle of the night, and diggin in our trash. Unacceptable! I instituted a cat trapping policy. If kitty decides they want what is in my trap, well then to go bye bye. The local animal shelter picks them up 7 days a week upon a phone call. I have trapped and ridded my street of about 20-25 kittahs! Once I even got two at once! OMG that was funny! It was a giant pissed off furball fight! I recommend trapping. (then you can sell them to fisherman) jkjk Doug. I have never developed indigestion from eating my words. Winston Churchill
ltdiver 3 #56 February 20, 2009 Wow, your story is more gross than mine! Sorry to hear you had to be the gate keeper for such a menagerie of felines. Got a bit of a shock here last night....I heard the cat trap spring shut, so I wandered outside with my flash light. One of the big black tom cats was caught and VERY ANGRY, spinning round and round! He went ballistic as my light hit him...and he was able to escape! WTF! The door was closed and he still wriggled out in a burst of insane energy! Didn't know that escapism was a possibility with these traps. Wonder if I'll get round 2 with that one... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
tigra 0 #57 February 20, 2009 One of my cats can undo zippers- I have soft sided cat carriers that zip closed and she can get out of them easily! I have to use a special one just for her! I ahve another one who can open doors, so I am not even a little bit surprised the cat got out of the cage. I wouldn't count on a 2nd chance with that one, either! Some will even find a way to get the food out of the trap without getting caught inside.
ltdiver 3 #58 February 22, 2009 Well here we are a week later and the washing, followed by vinegar, -seems- to be working so far. I've gone and sprayed the solution around the border of both back and front porch a couple times during the week as well. The washing damaged some of the porch paint, but that's okay....I needed to repaint it eventually anyway. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

They are also potentially dangerous to any other pets in the neighborhood. Not to mention, the lives these cats are living has to be pretty harsh too. Well Animal Control is now informed on what's going on in the neighborhood, by default. Another feral was caught, they were called to come and pick him up, and I was home and they questioned me. They saw many cats in the street and logically asked me what was up. Don't know what they will do with the information. I didn't make my neighbor out to be a 'bad guy', but remarked that when she put her own cats outside the feral cats just gravitated to her place. Which is some of the story, but not quite all of it. I'm only trapping the feral ones. Any that are 'domesticated' I'm leaving alone (well, they don't get in the trap anyway, as they're not searching and prowling like the feral ones are). And so goes the story.... PS I just saw the HUGE feral tom cat walking the top of my fence. I shake my head....he's so big he would not fit in the trap.... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
