quade 4 #2 February 23, 2009 Well, they may be "stupid, spoiled, overpaid idiots," but for at least a few of us they are a source of income. It's only 3.5 hours out of the year and as I recall if you aren't an industry person it's not actually required viewing.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

jimmytavino 16 #15 February 23, 2009 movies are all well and good.. But to elevate everyone involved in them to Sainthood... IS a bit much... How much back-patting, and self indulgence do these people need?? Gimme a break... sure the finished products are sometimes entertaining... But hell don't they shoot 8 or 10 "takes" just to get it right?? man.. these folks make MONEY like it's no tomorrow,,, the media and some people adulate them like as if they were Gods... and they fawn over one another, shamelessly... Something is wrong with that.. What ever happened to the concept of "the starving artist"?? I'm sure most of those fancy folks are not struggling,, ( well except for those with drug or substance abuse problems),,, and they have more than enough $$$$ to live the good life... But enough is enough... While it's true that there are examples of fine and philanthropic Types within the movie industry....for the most part, I tend to see...opulence in beverly Hills and Hollywood,, right NEXT DOOR. to serious social issues, poverty ,crime and despair.. right there in Los Angeles.... not to mention many many places on this planet... Those folks live in a bubble of narcissism,,,becuse we the ticket buying public made such a consumptuous lifestyle possible... How about Oscars for teachers??? or for Public servants in everyday Life?? For those who toil, not for the big bucks, but for the benefit of the society in which they live... I could name a couple of dozen totally anonymous individuals who are far more worthy of an award, than are many of the Actors whom we have elevated far beyond what is reasonable. Right beside the movie and TV industry, exists the Music ,Sports and Entertainment Phenomena....they are all getting out of hand. ridiculous salaries and payoffs for pro sports, over the top earnings for musicians and actors... ALL of whom claim " I'd do this for the LOVE of it".. "Oh yeah??" ..."well, Let's see "...How about if the IRS taps that income, for a specialty tax that is specifically earmarked for "sports, arts, recreation and entertainment" on the local and on the community level, so that fans and lovers of music and art, aren't being tapped 50 or 100 bucks,,, for "tickets" to such events....But can find sensible satifying events more often and more easily...and closer to home. It's been said that the buying public, who is willing to pay, has created this situation and i suppose any time any of us buys a movie ticket, or goes to a concert , that we're contributing to the mess.... but Realizing that, is a good first step to changing it.jmy

vdschoor 0 #22 February 23, 2009 Quote WTF ..... the T.V news this morning has so much waffling about these stupid, spoiled, overpaid idiots .. it's so cringeworthy [/rant] Are they really overpaid? If someone wants YOUR face in their movie, and there is 20 other people lined up that want YOUR face in their movie as well.. which one will you pick? Probably a decision that is based on money vs. your values.. you don't want to put yourself on the screen as someone / something that goes against your values maybe, but I'm SURE compensation would be a big one in the decision.. I'll be really honest, it would be for me.. It's simple economics: supply and demand ...... I agree it's people patting each other on the back... but he.. turn off that tv if you don't want to see it..
shropshire 0 #23 February 23, 2009 Yes they are .. way ... way over paid... (Like you need to ask). They do nothing much, they make nowt, they safe no lives ...... they leech. There aren't just a small hand full of actors, there's thousands of them. With lots of them often out of work and I'd suggest way better than dick-heads like Tom Cruise et al. but no, the celebrity status is king, not the skill so we end up with the completely ridiculous Film Star cult (.)Y(.)
