SARLDO 0 #1 February 25, 2009 If your a runner (or doc), can you answer this? I went for a run at lunch and went farther than planned for today (5 miles). Not a big deal, I do 5 all the time except today was just unplanned and I got a little hot and didn't have water with me. Problem i'm having is that right now, i'm freezing my ass off (in Orlando, indoors, temp is about 72f) and have been since I cooled down and showered (about 1.5 hours ago). I'm not dehydrated either, just cold. Any clue as to why this is?"Always do right. masterblaster72 0 #2 February 25, 2009 I think it's because you shed some calories and in turn lost some body heat. You need the calories and fluids to replenish yourself. I noticed after long runs (17+ miles) I would get the chills no matter how hot it was outside. That's my uneducated guess...I suggest eating something or at least drinking something with caloric value. Happy runnin'... crwper 7 #3 February 25, 2009 If I understand correctly, it's fairly common, at least with long distance running. This is part of the reason why, even on a warm day, they will hand out thermal blankets at the end of some marathons. The body gets used to working at an elevated temperature, and when you suddenly stop, it doesn't adjust quickly enough. Michael
SARLDO 0 #4 February 25, 2009 Thanks. I have done a couple of 1/2's and remember the chills that followed. Today was weird because the run was so short and I was shivering nearly 2 hours later. I did eat some chicken and had some gatoraid and felt better shortly after. I'm still cold but not shivering anymore."Always do right.
