lippy 918 #1 February 27, 2009 I haven't had one in years. I want to have some friends over for one on Saturday, but I can't find a propane burner. I'd prefer to find a 'Fried Turkey Kit', but if I can find the burner then I can get the rest of the shit from Walmart. I live just across the border from McAllen TX and usually by the time I can get into the US, Walmart's the only thing open. McAllen's got all of the big stores (Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot etc..), and if I can get Saturday afternoon free I can start searching, but I'd like to shorten up the search. Anybody know where a guy should start looking for a propane burner? So far I've only checked Walmart but no luck.I got nuthin

skymama 37 #3 February 27, 2009 They have them at the Home Depot in our area, try there. Give the store a call before you go, the number should be on their website. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
keithbar 1 #4 February 27, 2009 excluding buying the burner and pot. I've allways found the most expensive part of deep frying a turkey. is buying the peanut or cottonseed oil. and the most time consuming part was bring the oil up to temp. I've found it's much more cost effective to fry 3 or 4 or more up while you have the oil hot. of course you have to have a big enough crowd.i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .
regulator 0 #5 February 27, 2009 I agree with you about the peanut oil being one of the most expensive parts...but the most time consuming issue is defrosting the turkey. Hey I was watching this show last night on TRUTV and they put in a totally frozen turkey in a tub of boiling out and wow...that thing went crazy!! I've never seen so many flames shoot out of something so small. Needless to say when I did mine for thanksgiving...It was pretty danm defrosted but yet it still managed to spill hot oil on my driveway. Make sure you do it outside with a very defrosted turkey! steve1 5 #6 February 27, 2009 I think we got ours at Target. There's nothing better than deep fried turkey! I'm having a lot of trouble with the propane burners though. I've got two of them, that I use for various things, even taxidermy projects. Both of them don't get hot enough. It's like they are on a low setting all the time. You can't get them to throw out the heat you need. Is there something I am doing wrong. Do, I need to take a big hammer to them? Thanks for your help! lippy 918 #12 February 28, 2009 I went to Lowes and found a kit w/burner and pot and all....up to the syringe for the marinade! I asked the Lowes guy about new style tanks that limit the flow more than the old style...He seemed pretty clueless. I hope I can get this up to temp tomorrow. I got nuthin
lippy 918 #13 February 28, 2009 The burner's assembled and kicks off some seriously good head The bird's been injected and is in the fridge festering I've got enough beer/wine/whiskey to destroy the liver of a mid-size African elephant First guest should be here in about 30 minutes I've already dialed 9-1...Once the oil goes on the burner, somebody'll be on standby to hit 1 againI got nuthin

keithbar 1 #15 March 1, 2009 the main reason people have caused fires is is imo they put too much oil in the pot and when they submerge the turkey the hot oil overflows. you need just enough oil to cover the bird. I had one guy tell me he tried it one time and said it was horrible greasy tasting. I asked how he did it. turns out he put the turkey in the pot. covered it with COLD oil and then lit the burner to start bringing it up to temp....... well theres your problem i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .

keithbar 1 #17 March 1, 2009 your right on there. the thing that makes a frozen turkey in hot oil such a bad idea its all the frozen water in the turkey going from a solid state straight to a gas and by passing the liquid state. it really is an impressive display of stupidity i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .
