Do you have a Passport

Recommended Posts

I was just curious how many other people around here have passports and travel internationally.

I love to travel and have been to a lot of countries over the years, some for pleasure, some for business.

Just curious about the travelling habits of Americans compared to non-Americans.

with the new rules you need a passport to go almost anywhere

I go to Whistler Canada, going in April, and you now need a passport, a couple years ago a certified copy of a birth cert was adequate, I beleive you now need them for a Caribbean cruise

They have a new thing called the Passport card that is supposed to be good enough when you are cruising to places in the Caribbean or to Mexico... or driving across the border to Mexico or Canada.

I got one when I renewed my Passport since it was an option.

Are flying into Vancouver BC??

I have a passport, but I didn't get it and travel overseas until I was 35. I decided it was going to be different for my kids, so they got passports in 2007 and have already been to England, France, Spain and Canada to use it.

Yes. I drive into/through Canada quite a bit (every other month or so) and I had to get one last year. It used to be a Drivers License and Certified copy of the Birth Cert. was good enough, but not anymore.

Been to: Portugal, spain, france, norway, england, Israel, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Kuwait, Bahrain, Seychelles, Kenya, the Philipines, S. Korea, China, Japan and more that I have either forgotten or shall just go unmentioned.

heh, last census i believe fewer than 20% of americans had a passport. Pretty sad, when you think about it.

I bet skydivers as a sample are skewed, though. we do a lot of traveling to far off places for boogies, events, etc.

Not really. Consider the geographical diversity that you can experience within the lower 48. Most things that you want to see, you can find an example here. Maybe not the biggest or best examples, but a version of mountains, oceans, plains.....get my point. Add that, until recently, you could travel the entire continent without a passport. Then add the size of the nation. The USA isn't like European countries where you can drive across five borders before your coffee gets cold.

Agreed, but being stuck in the U.S. ain't too bad.;)

Actually, from what I know of Sweden, and especially whom I've met from Sweden, I could handle being stuck there.:)

Then add Alaska, Hawaii, and Pureto Rico (no passport needed) I can see most of what the world has to offer geologicaly without one. Culturally, ethnically, biologically is a different story, but you can spend a lot of time travelling, not see the same thing twice, and never leave the US.

I was just curious how many other people around here have passports and travel internationally.

I have a passport because I am from Canada and live in the USA and need it to cross the border. However I do not have a Canadian passport--I am a dual citizen of Canada and Australia and I find Australian passports to be much less of a hassle--for one thing they are good for 10 years, like US passports but unlike Canadian passports which are good only for 5 years. So I let my old Canadian passport expire and only use my Australian passport these days.

I don't travel much internationally though--in recent years the only countries I've visited have been the USA, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, and Bermuda. Still hoping to do more extensive travelling at some point.

I was actually researching this for the car club I'm in. The regional get together in May is on Vancouver Island, so a bunch from Spokane were getting excited about getting passports and such. You can still cross the border via land or sea into Mexico or Canada and Caribbean until June 1st with driver's license and birth certificate. After that you need a passport, passport card or an enhanced driver's license. If you fly, you need a passport.

Get a passport - easy, relatively cheap, and you won't get hassled. Um, shouldn't get hassled.

Got my 1st one at 18 and have always had one.

We travel quite a bit, sometimes on little or no planning or set itinerary...so I pretty much always have it with me.

I remember when my wife & I first started dating, I saw HER passport and was amazed.

She was flying internationally for work all the time, and what U.S. Immigration would do to passports that were out of room for visa stamps was 'add' a dozen or so pages...her passport was easily an inch thick! B|

I only got a passport less than a year ago!!! I kept meaning to, but there was no real need, since I was just traveling in the united states a lot!

Now that I have it, i use it ALL the time!!! It's absolutely fantastic to have one, and to be able to travel to countries where i don't understand a word they are saying :P;)

I can't imagine living without one! You're missing out on SO much otherwise! B|
