wolfriverjoe 1,523 #2 March 1, 2009 Yup, you don't see it very often, so very few know how to drive in it, and you don't have every other pickup truck with a snowplow on the front of it. We had about 5" of snow Thurs night. I went out and when I got where I was heading, a friend was plowing out the parking lot so nobody would get stuck, just being a nice guy."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." ianmdrennan 2 #3 March 1, 2009 Yeah, fortunately living in MA for 5+ years taught me how to drive in it. Unfortunately, the city isn't really prepared for it, so roads are sketchier than they'd be in other areas that get snow. Gotta drive to the airport today - should be fun Performance Designs Factory Team
DavidB 0 #4 March 1, 2009 A friend lives near the speedway & just said it's snowing like 10 motherfuckers. I laughed & said the roads must be total chaos (like in El Paso when it rains). Oh, I'm in central NJ & they're predicting 6"-12" here. I just prepped both snow blowers. Hopefully that's enough effort to cause it to only rain. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

Some of us grew up climatologically abused by our families so we learn to move to places that dont get all that white stuff for so much of the yearI like this area for that... we get a little snow here at my house in the hills from time to timme but it usually melts off really fast. BUT... if I want to go skiing.. its a quick 45 minute trip up to Stevens Pass where I can get 15 foot of snow or more all winter.

No shit huh? It seems like every time it snows people forget how to drive and especially PARK! Is it that hard to remember how to park your car in a parking lot?? And I can't believe it snowed that much in Georgia!!! I picture the whole town shut down and everyone huddled in their houses!

Come to think about it, despite all this so called experience we northerners get driving in snowy and icy conditions, there is still no shortage of morons who don't know how to drive on the white slippery icy stuff. I have come to the conclusion that it is the lack of snow tires that causes so much mayhem. These "all-season" tires just DO NOT cut it in winter. Two years ago I finally bit the bullet and bought snow tires for both our vehicles....incredible difference. I believe that Quebec is the only Canadian province that mandates snow tires for winter driving. I think it should be mandatory all over Canada....and maybe a few of the northern states. I'll never drive in the winter without them again. They greatly enhance your safety. Two years ago we had the worst blizzard in 50 years (unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember the one 50 years ago) and I know I would not have made it home with all season radials. With my snow tires I drove our minivan through stuff that I didn't think was possible. The attached photo is of our driveway after taking 3 1/2 hours to do a 15 minute drive to get home. The streets were clogged with abandoned buses, cars, trucks, it was crazy. When snow hits areas that don't have snow removal equipment, experience driving in it and tires that aren't suited for it on their vehicles....people are going to have accidents or wind up in the ditch.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

DavidB 0 #19 March 2, 2009 Plenty, thank you. Layers are more important though, as the temp is now up to a balmy 23°F & the wind is only blowing 20-25MPH. Been out in it once already, having to go through a couple 24" deep drifts to clean off the satellite dish. BillyVance 35 #22 March 3, 2009 We only got a dusting of snow here, but it was coming down hard for a little while. My wife wanted to go to church and take our girl along and asked me if I wanted to go. I didn't feel like it and then told her "you want to go out in THAT?" and then slapped my head and said, "my bad, you're from Connecticut!" She was still adamant about going, so I thought, oh well, fuck it, I might as well go and do the driving (yes, I spent several winters driving in Rochester, NY), and hoped we wouldn't run into some fucking idiot who didn't know how to handle snow. At my house, there was not enough snow to cover the ground completely. 15 miles east, there was, and snowing harder. Maybe 3 to 5 inches on the ground. We get to the church and find out they cancelled services. Oh well, the drive back was pretty, especially some of the trees that were covered in snow. Yeah that is kind of amazing.... It WAS pretty cool when somebody from that church gave a very eloquent prayer to heal my back after I fucked it up in the playground swing accident and I started walking again on my own shortly after and the constant spasming stopped. I find it hard to believe I deserve it.
