1969912 0 #1 March 7, 2009 Got to thinking about hourly costs for sports/recreation/fun. My most expensive was an open-wheeled circle track race car. Ran it for 1.5 seasons before it got (nearly) totalled in a huge wreck. That race series folded in my area, and after selling what was left of the car, I figure it cost me over $2,000 per hour of actual driving EDIT to add: Probably not that far from skyiving costs.... Intentionally: BASE jumping with a chartered Jet Ranger providing transportation and lift service for over $100K per freefall hour. Unintentionally: a three second freefall from a bridge followed by a bad landing. About $48 million per hour of freefall, with some of the cost being lost wages and a lot picked up by insurance. Even if you include canopy time, you still beat the heck out of my wimpy 2K/hr. Hope you're still OK after the accident! LisaH 0 #6 March 8, 2009 With as much fun as it was, it was also one of the dumbest things I've done. Hundreds of dollars into the same slot machine for 6 hours. Be yourself! MooOOooOoo

CanuckInUSA 0 #14 March 9, 2009 Quote What's the most you've ever spent per hour to do something fun? Rented a Cessna 182 (if memory serves me correct I paid $110/hr wet ... meaning I don't pay extra for fuel) to fly around the Colorado Rockies for about 5 hours. Damn expensive day (did it more than once) but as long as I live and as long as still have my wits about me, I will forever remember observing the beauty of those mountains from the air up close and personal. Just watch out for the turbulence coming home heading east with the western winds aloft... dang glad I did not have a whuffo like person with me because it was a rough ride at times. PS: as others have mention, 1 hour of freefall is probably even more expensive. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
