Insomnia Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

The solution I like best is....demerol.
A little bit and you don't care whether you sleep or not.
A little more and you have the most wonderful dreams!
My reality and yours are quite different.

Maybe talk to your doc about getting a sleeping pill prescription for those nights when you just can't sleep but have to.

My doc has me taking 2.5mg of Ambien per night to get me to sleep. He's said up to 5mg per night is allowed. I'm trying to figure out what's causing the insomnia as I hate taking meds. :$ So far...haven't figured it out and have tried reading before bed, herbal tea, some relaxing yoga, lavender scented pillows...:S Doesn't help me fall asleep but does get me to relax a bit. :D

I've even cut down on my caffeine intake to 1 cup of coffee per day and no other caffeine at all.

I have trouble sleeping also. I have a sound machine that I flip on when I wake up in the middle of the night and am having trouble falling back to sleep. There's something about having that extra background noise that sometimes helps me relax again. They're less than $20, so it might be worth giving one a try.

I feel your pain. I've been pretty sick for the past week, and consequently, getting maybe 3 hours sleep at a time. I wake up coughing, and even if it's 4am I can't get back to sleep. I'm even on the codeine cough medicine, and if anything, I seem to feel less sleepy after taking it. I'm sooo worn out![:/]

I'm also an occasional insomniac, although my pattern is different. I nod off w/o much difficulty, but I wake up at an ungodly hour, usually around 2 am and unable to go back to sleep. I'will not touch sleeping aids, although I've been prescribed Ambien. Many people recommended Melatonin, a natural sleeping aid, although I haven't tried it myself yet as I seem to be sleeping OK atm. It takes a week or two to kick in but it apparently helps. You may want to give it a try.

Most OTC sleep medications are antihistamines.
Myself, I occasionally take a full dose of Benadryl liquid around an hour before bedtime. It does help me get to sleep, and sleep through the night. Usually.
(Or as we used to joke when our kids were infants: "Need a nap? Dimetapp!")

Ya i will let ya know.My problem is getting to sleep and then staying that way.
I ws on Ambein a few years back and it did NOTHING.
Trazadone worked for me as long as I took it immediately before I went to sleep, but if interrupted before I did fall asleep then it was useless

I'm also going through it lately. No problem falling asleep but always wake up 3-4 hours later. I do not want to resort to taking any sleeping aids. I'm hoping it will go away on its own. I've had a lot on my mind. I'm currently sleeping in a guest room in my parent's house because my apartment was completely destroyed by smoke on Jan. 2nd, along with most of my personal belongings.:(

ok, I tried restoril last night. Big mistake. Every little sound in the house became magnified and I got terribly anxious. i kept waking up with a start..and when I did sleep, things were wavy and wierd. This morning my legs are rubbery. NOT a good fit at all.:S I got a grand total of 3 hours of very fitful sleep.:(
