TrophyHusband 0 #8 March 16, 2009 i would suggest the off season, like in the fall. even then, traffic can get backed up pretty bad. or if you don't mind not being at the top of the food chain, you could backpack instead if drive around. it is a spectacular place. SARLDO 0 #9 March 16, 2009 Just do it. Fly into Jackson (so you can see the Tetons too), rent a Harley and ride through Yellowstone for a week. Sure, you can do it good in couple of days but you'll want to stop and enjoy some of the best scenery THIS country has to offer."Always do right. shropshire 0 #11 March 16, 2009 Now that would be a fantastic holiday .... need to take my paraglider too. Actually this episode of the series covered the Winter period - There was a chap who lives up there and clear snow from the roofs of the buildings - what a cool jobSo maybe, early spring would be my ideal time to visit. irisheyes 0 #12 March 16, 2009 I spent a week there at the end of May last year and it was the perfect time. All the roads were open (some roads are closed from October/November through May due to snow), the weather was beautiful, and there were not too many tourists because it was not quite high season yet. Grand Teton National Park is just south of Yellowstone and is amazingly beautiful too. I thought the week would be too much time there, but I wish I had had a longer amount of time to explore. I'm going to try to go the same time this year again, but not sure I'll make it yet.

muff528 3 #16 March 16, 2009 Here's a warning sign from a park in BC, Canada. Found this somewhere on the interweb. I'm sure it's good advice in Yellowstone, too. http://www.flickr.com/photos/christianmlau/2756629523/ Be careful out there!

ryoder 1,590 #18 March 16, 2009 Here is your seasoning....errr...bear spray: http://www.counterassault.com/html/beardeterrent.html I was reading a post on a bike forum site about a guy who used it to break up a brawl among 4 dogs. He stated that all the dogs were very respectful of each other after that, almost as if each dog thought the others were responsible for getting him sprayed. irisheyes 0 #22 March 17, 2009 I stayed in Teton Village which is at the entrance to Grant Teton National park and was great to base from which to explore GTNP, Jackson Hole and the southern part of Yellowstone. I also made it up to the northern part of the park from there to. But, if I go again, I'd probably stay a two to three of nights in Teton Village, and then move up to the north entrance of the park in Montana for a couple of nights and then back to Teton Village again. A lot of moving from hotel to hotel, but a whole lot less backtracking when you are exploring the parks. You'd be surprised how massive Yellowstone actually is. There are four main entrances to Yellowstone, North, South, East and West, and, hotels in the little towns outside the entrances. There are also hotels in the park, but they were pricier and more crowded. I was surprised how much there was to do outside the parks too. If you are considering a trip, PM me and I'd be happy to give you some other pointers and some useful links in planning your trip. It really is well worth visit!! SARLDO 0 #24 March 17, 2009 Good advise above. Stay at "The Village" (calling it Teton Village marks you as a tourist ) and expplore the Grand Tetons. make sure you set aside an afternoon to watch the sunset at the Oxbow (locals can guide you, it's headed north towards Yellowstone from Jackson Hole). Going in the spring will also give you the opportunity to raft the Snake River. The Snake can easially produce class 5 rapids during the melt and there are many guides to chose from in Jackson. All that said, if you would like to hire me as a guide to all that is North-West Wyoming, I'll clear my schedule. Just say the word "Always do right. steve1 5 #25 March 17, 2009 Quote The last time a super volcano blew.... we just about went extinct.. ] Oh shit! Does that mean everyone in Western Montana is about to die??? On a more serious note, Yellowstone is a wonderful place, if you enjoy nature. You might want to take a fishing pole. We caught some really nice trout in a lake just south of Yellowstone Lake. We also had a canoe. There are a lot of restrictions. You might want to leave your dog at home. We had an older dog and a pup in our canoe. Luckily we didn't tip over. My daughter worked in a bank at Teton Village, for a couple years. The scenary north of there is nothing short of amazing. That would be the place to go if you want beautiful mountains. Bring your rig too. You can skydive in Montana, at Hamilton, Ronan, and Lost Prairie....
